ceeds in Getting Faster
Schedule.
The chamber of commerce has com
pleted arrangements with the Texas
and Pacific railroad, -whereby the lat
ter will run a more satisfactory freight
service between El Paso and points
on its lines.
The new schedule, which is now In
effect, calls fort Ireight cars to be
loaded each day in this city for points
between El Paso jand Big1 Springs,
where an order o OTer 2000 pounds of
merchandise Has seen received. Freight
of this character will be forwarded,
by fast freight, to Toyah, and from
thera to a local train, which will leave
Toyah upon the arrflval of the fast
freight from El Paso. Delivery will
be made to all points as far as Big
Springs the same day. This gives 24
hour service to all points between this
city and Big Springs.
Negotiations are now in progress
between the chamber of commerce and
other roads entering El Paso and It Is
felt that, with the progress already
made, this city will soon have the
best freight service ofany city in the
southwest. ,

INJURED IN RUNAWAY
Cananea, Sonora, Mex., Aug. 2. CoL
William C. Greene narrowly escaped
death when his team ran away and is
at present at his home suffering with
a broken collar bone and three or four
broken ribs. The accident 'occurred in
Iront of the Catholic church. He had
been at the Alexandria hotel and was
just getting into his buggy when the
team became frightened. He was
thrown into the buggy but managed to
keep his hold on the reins. At the
corner of the church the pole of the
buggy .struck a telegraph pole and
was shattered. The horses tore across
the street Into a fence and the colonel
was thrown OTer the fence into the
vacant lot, where he was picked up
by people who were attracted to tte
spot.

the past year, has been visiting his
family and while here engaged the
Baker house on the corner of Spruce
and Tin streets, and his family is now
moving in. Mr. Carswell, while in
town, bought two lots in the
western part of townand retured to
Anadarko to close upbTis law practice
there 1 order to make Deming his
home and begin the erection of a mod
ern house on his lots here this fall.
F. G. Rodolf, who recently moved
with his family to Deming from El
Paso, has announced his purchase of
the -buildings, orchard and 20 acres
of the Knowles ranch adjoining the
townsite on the southeast.
The chamber of commerce is just in
receipt from the printer of a descrip
tive booklet, done in colors, on the
Deming country and Mirpbres valley.
It is one of the best published in the
town publicity campaigns nqw being
carried on all over New Mexico. A
copy of the booklet will be sent to
anyone upon request made to theec
rettary of the chamber of commerce.
C. S. Johnson, of El Paso, E. C.
Crapps, of Clint. Texas, and R. Noel
Longuemore, of Ia Union. New Mexico,
are among the late arrivals looking
over Deming country.
Rev. E. B. Hackley, of Oklahoma
City, who has been in town, several
days, has decided to make Deming his
home, and .has purchased 160 acres
of land west of town along the line of
the Southern Pacific railway. He will
be returing to Oklahoma to move his
family to Deming within a few days.
H. M Coleman, of Mineral "Wells,
Texas, a week or two ago decided to
make Deming his future home, secur
ing land while here, and he returned
to his home to send his brother, B. H.
Coleman, of Hallettsville, Texas, who
has arriived In Deming to study this
country with a view to locating here.
A distinguished visitor in Deming
was KermLt Roosevelt, son of expresl
dent Roosevelt, and who was with his
father on the African hunting expedi
tion. After breakfast VT. E. Holt, Dr.
Moir, mayor Corbett and Kermit. pro
ceeded to see Deming in Dr. Moir's
automobile, to make a call on many
citizens and view the improvements
that are being made In this city.
