A heavy tone developed In the stock market at the opening. Canadian Pacific, which was off over two points in London, declined four points here, with a loss of 1 in Northern Pacific and one point losses in Reading, Amalga mated Copper and Union Pacific Texas company declined two. The balance of the list showed market de clines with practically no gains. The selling decreased somewhat soon after the opening, but prices contin ued to decline The six point loss in Canadian Pacific resulted from re ports of adverse crop conditions in Canada. There was no news to ac count for the further liquidation In the Harriman's. Midday declines were followed by another brief period of comparative quiet which had no effect in checking the movement By 1 oclock the t more pronounced declines were Texas com pany, 10 points; Rock, Island Pfd. six points; Union Pacific, five; United States Steel, three; Reading, 3; Le high Valley, 3; St Paul, three, and Southern Pacific 2. The market closed heavy. The list evinced some tendency to improve in the last hour, Canadian Pacific, Union Pacific and Reading rallying from 1 to two points. The selling seemed to have exhausted itself at this time, but the undertone continued hesitat ing. Semi- official denial that the Harri man estate had its holding was -a help ful factor in the rally.
