Gov. Col quitt has notified local officials that lie will not interfere with the hang ing of Leon Martinez, the Spaniard recently convicted here of the killing of Miss Brown. The hanging will occur September 1, and will be the first legal hang ing in the history of Reeves county. The Toyah Valley State bank has been opened at Saragosa, Texas, the present southern terminus of the Pecos Valley Southern railway. State bank examiner Buchanan came to Balmor hea and saw that everything was in shape and all the town turned out to witness Balmorhea's first evidence of metropolitanism. The officers of the aew bank are C. M. Hurnacker, for merly of Coffeyviile, Kansas, presi dent; J. G-. Love, vice president; W. C. SftlthoHse, cashier. Directors are: F. W. Johnson, T. B. Prultt, Stamp Robbing and D. Davis. The bank Is erecting a concrete building. Plans are being made by Rev. J. B. Cole, pastor of the .First Baptist church, Pecos, for the revival to be held here starting August 26. Min isters of all the Protestant churches will take part: The last stragglers from the El Yajso convention of Knights of Pyth ias have returned to Pecos from El Paso except judge "W. A Hudson, whose love for the Pass City has detained him until Monday. The Pecos Knights are loud in their praise of the enter tainment provided for the delegates at El Paso. TIRES OF CIVIL LIFE IN 3 HOURS Soldier Discharged at 9 O'Gloek Asks Eeen listment at Noon William Eckert, a trooper in troop K, Fourth cavalry, received his hon orable discharge from the army at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. At noon he went to the recruiting office and asked to be reenlisted in the armyp as he was tired of civil life because he had to spend his own money and in the army he "had no expenses. The recruiting officers set out their lines for Eckert, and as he cannot be enlisted until 24 hours after his dis charge, he was again taken into the army Monday. CHILD FALLS UPOX HOT COOK STOVE AND IS BADLY BURNED Dalhart Texas, Aug. 21. The little daughter of J. E. Brandeberry, a lo comotive engineer on the -Rock Island, accldently fell on a hot cook stove and severely burned her arms and hands. Miss Lula Mercer has returned from Illinois and has a stenographic posi tion in the Rock Island general office at Dalhart. Admiral lord Chas. Beresford is at the head of the party, and he Is en route to the estate of his late brother, loid De la Val Beresford, in Ghihua hua. The admiral is coming over to sell the ranches and cattle of his de ceased brother and close up the estate. Accompanied by lady Beresford, the admiral came over on the steamer Olympic and is now In New York, ac cording to telegrams received here, planning for his trip to Mexico. Others in the party that came aboard the gi gantic Olympic are the duke of Suth erland, lord Desborough. former gov ernor general of Australia, and the Hon. Arthur Stanley. Af ter a few days' stay in New Tork, ,A CAR INSPECTOR HAS FOOT CRUSHED Carlsbad, N. M., Aug. 21. R. P. Greere, a car inspector at this place for the Eastern Railway "of New Mex ico, bad his foot crushed here while making a coupling. In attempting to push the drawbar over, the bumpers caught his foot, badly crushing it. It is thought that amputation will not le necessary. Local anglers are reveling in their pastime at the power dam at the eastern edge of town. Prof. Joe Bunch holds the record for landing a 30 pound cat fish. Many nice strings of smaller fish were caught by others. A short time ago Mr. Mclntyre pur chased the remander of this block, of Mr. Hatch; the property known as the "Hatch Hotel," and remodeled it. This block practically controls the business of this part of Brewster county, as tho postoffice and bank are located in the big store. This property, together with his new suburban residence, which h has just completed on north heights, is the most valuable in the county. ALPINE BEADY FOR NEW SCHOOL YEAR Alpine, Texas, Aug:. 21. The county teachers' Institute ivill convene here September 4, and the regrular scholas tic session -wil begin September 11. All the teachers have been , employed and everything Is prepared for one of the most successful year's of work In the history of the schools of Alpine. There is not a vacant residence in town and many people are hunting houses to live In. Every house now under construction has been rented In advance, and the demand for tenement houses is unprecedented. Greenbrier, Tenn., was shaken up whefh the Rocky Mountain limited, going 45 miles an hour, ran into an open switch at Flagler, Colo., and was wrecked about 10 oclock Sun day morning. A large forest fire which broke out on Pole creek, near .Tardin, 60 miles south of here on the edge of Yellowstone Park yesterday, was reported here today. The fire is spreading rapidly and has already done a large amount of dam age. Forest supervisor Bedford with a large force of fire fighters, left here this afternoon. Plans for president Taft's coming trip through the west and to the Pacific coast practically are completed. The journey will be almost as extensive as that taken by the president on his famous "swing around the circle" in 1909, -when he traveled more than 13,000 miles and visited 33 states. He will break ground for the Panama ca nal exposition at San Francisco, make scoreB of addresses and attempt to scale the 14,008 feet of Mount Rainler's slope. A ter rific windstorm last night along the International boundary line in north Dakota, blew down houses on the heads of their Inmates and whipped crops in places Into shreds. It Is re ported that two tornadoes collided at Sherwood.. Heavy property loss is re ported at Sherwood, Loraine, Mohall and Sourls. At Sourls one person was killed. FOGG-TO HAVE-A HOUSTON THEATER May Bring Orpheum Vaude ville to El Paso This Winter for Crawford Howard Fogg is back from Houston and San Antonio, wherhe has bea making arrangements for a couple of theaters for musical comedy. He se cured ground for a theater In Houstoa and will build at once. In San An tonio he is on a deal for one Mr. Fogg is figuring on bringing: Orpheum vaudeville back to El Paso. If he succeeds, the show will be In the Crawford theater. PRESIDENT WILL NOT VISIT EL PASO President Taft will not visit El Paso on his contemplated swing Around the circle. His trip to the Pacific coast will go north, from California, instead of returning by the southern route as was expected. It was hoped that the presidential party would return over the Southern Pacific, visit Arizona and New Mexico and attend the statehood celebrations to be held in these new states, but his return will be over the northern route by way of 'Idaho -and Montana.
