Vacci nation against typhoid fever was made compulsory today for every officer and enlisted man In the United States army under 45 year3 old. The Com cercial club is hot foot after the nor mal school that under the new con stitution of New Mexico will be es tablished by the next legislature fn eastern New Mexico. At a recent meeting of the club a committee of 12, consisting of Prof. "W. L. Bishop, S. "W. Gilbert, A. C. Keinath, T. R. Smith. G. R. Brainerd, Dr. M. P. Skeen, 6ayle Talbot, F. J. IiUkins, Murray Schenk, Rev. E. E. Mathes and Rev. A. El Boyd was appointed to take action in the matter and push the project to a suc cessful termination. Artesia is taking a great interest in the El Paso trade excursion that ex pects to attend the Valley Products exposition at Roswell October 5, 6 and 7. An invitation will be extended the excursionists to visit Artesia on their trip. Trips are also planned to 'Hope to take In v "the orchards, one to Lake wood to take in the canning factory and Japanese truck patches, and one to Carlsbad to take in the orchards and irrigation project. The trip through the valley should be in autos to convey a full conception of the de velopment of the country and its vast possibilities. The meeting of- the Eddy county Democratic committee at Carlsbad "Wednesday for the purpose of making arrangements for the nomination of county and legislative officers, prom Ises to be interesting. The Democrats of southern Eddy county want a con vention to place the candltdates In nomination,,, as. they, would have no trouble, on account of the apportion ment, in controling the convention. Those from Artesia and the northern part of the county want a general pri mary as they think they control a. ma jority of the Democratic votes of the county. The fight of the two sections of the county will be over the nomi nation of a state senator, as Artesia wants the new normal school and county division. A meeting of the Democrats of Ar tesia has been called to instruct the delegates of the county committee what course to pursue. The local lodge of the Eastern Star gave a farewell party at its hall in honor of Mrs. J. O. Kuykendall, who will shortly leave the valley. A bur lesque initiation was given that con vulsed the house. Mrs. M. M. Inraan, matron, on behalf of the lodge, pre sented Mrs. Kuykendall with a past matron's jewel.
