Lawrence, Mats.. Feb. 26. Stormy
scenes marked the beginning of the
seventh week of the Lawrence textile
workers' strike today. In an early
morning affair nearly a dozen ahots
ware fired from tenement houses upon
a sauad of Metropolitan nark ivniia
aad the-officers returned the fire. Two
strlSe sympathizers were arrested as
a result of the shooting, one of them
being taken to tbe koepttaal with a
bullet wound in his back.
Essex street was ia disorder for half
an hour while several thousand strik
ers and friends paraded along the
picket Una, jeering the police and mi
litia and singing the revolution song.
"L'International8." The demonstra
tion was a protest against the action
of the police Saturday in preventing
the sending of a company of children
to Philadelphia
At the railway station the crowd be
came so noisy that police reinforce
ments were called out The offK-ers
bundled a dozen demonstrators into au
tomobiles, which carred them to the
police station. In only one case did an
officer use his club. No women were
arrested.

David A. Denman. who died at a
local hospital Saturday afternoon after
a short illness, will be buried Tuesday
afternoon from the chapel at 708
North Stanton street. The Interment
will he In Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Denman was a descendant of
Lord Denman, at one time chief Justice
of England.
