M., July 13. George V. Wood has just had installed a pumping plant on his 5-acre home place and will irrigate his orchard and vineyard. His vineyard is one of the finest in this section of the state. W. T. Armstrong, of Deming, has been in Portales for a few days and while here purchased a small tract of land from the New State Development com pany. Coe Howard has gone to Oklahoma and other points cast and north on busi ness. Santa Fe officials have been in Por tales and through the vallcv surround ing the town during fie past week and seem to think that it will be but a short time until there will be great ton nage of hav and other produce, raised by irrigation, shipped from this point. CHARGE CHAUFFEUR RAN INTO A BUGGY C H. Smith, a local chauffeur, was arrested Friday afternoon on a charge of recklessly operating an automobile "when he ran into a huggy at the inter section of Overland ami Stanton streets, breaking the buggv. and knocking the occupant to the ground. The man was picked up and carried to the police sta tion where his injuries received medical attention. Later he was sent home. His name was not known. Smith was arrested earlier that after noon on a charge of being drunk and released on bond. Following his second arrest he was released on a $25 bond pending his hearing. Suits sponged and pressed.
