Except for some excitement among the Mohammedans at Haifa and Adana everything is reported quiet in this region. , TURKS AREROUTED BY GREEK TROOPS Saloniki. European Turkey, Nov. 27. Heavy fighting occurred today between a force of Turks retreating from Mon astir and a Greek army at Sorowitz to the south of Monastir. Wood was arrested Wednesday morning by Capt. J. H. Rogers on a federal charge of using the United States mails for the purpose of fraud. According to postmaster J A. Smith, Wood sent circulars to turke and produtfe shippers in east Texas, offering higher prices than the market warranted. According to the post master, who received a 'letter from an east Texas shipper, no returns were made by Wood on the shipments re ceived Wood is said to have come here from Snyder. Texas. On his sta tionery the names of a number of local banks appear, as references. DEATHS AND BTJRIALS FUXERAL OF JOH?f COLLIXS. The funeral of John Collins was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 oclock. The remains were viewed at the chapel at 50S Texas street, and the funeral service held at the church of the Guardian Angel in East El Paso. Rev. Albert Gilbert was the officiating priest The interment was in Catholic Concordia cemetery. An escort of fire department wagons accompanied the "body to the cemetery. The pallbearers were J. J. Sullivan; J. T. Sullivan, F. M. O'Connor, M. J. Gorman, -H. F. Borg mann and W. C. Wolverton. Attending the funeral were the city officials. Mr. Collins was connected with the city engineering department at the time of his death. PLEAD NOT GUILTY OF FRAUD. An order suspending the new rates of the Mod ern Woodmen of America until the courts can pass on the matter., was issued by the executive council of the order at a meeting today, it was learned from an authoritative source, though no official statement was given out after the committee's special meeting.
