Bisbee. Ariz., Feb. 7. Blsbee's Com mercial club has started in circulation a petition which will be brought up at the pood roads convention in Phoe nix on February 10. urging the imme diate completion of the present pro jected highways and the further con struction and maintenance of a com plete system of state highways con necting county seats and important points with each other or with the state highways with money to be raised by a state bond issue. The peti tion asks that the senators and repre sentatives of Cochise county work for and assist the enactment at this ses sion of the legislature of a law pro viding for a bond issue of not less than $5,600,000, and the location of the state highways by a nonpartisan board. An unidentified Mexican was in stantly killed by a Southwestern pas senger train near Bakersfield. It is believed that the man -was riding the rods and fell off. The heaviest rain of the winter vis ited Bisbee this -week. The rain started falling at 1 p. m., and continued until late at night. John Schulez, who was arrested here on the request of Gallup, N. JL, of ficials on. the charge of larceny of $250 from the First National bank of that city, has been taken to Tomb stone on habeas corpus proceedings. JOHNSON FALLS 400 FEET IN MINE SHAFT i Morencl Electrician Meets Death "While at Work; Measles, Mumps and Chlckcnpox Prevalent. Morencl. Ariz., Feb. 7. E. A. John son was instantly killed at the Coro nado mine, where he was engaged as an electrician, where he and other electricians were -wiring a shaft. John son lost his footing, falling a distance of 400 feet. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, who took charge of the body as soon as it -was brought up from the shaft. For the funeral the lvydge chartered a train of four cars, which were filled to their ca pacity. The interment was in Frater nal cemetery. He leaves a wife, to whom he was married last December, and a father and mother and sister. Measles, mumps and chickenpox still have a few victims here. H. K. Hill, of the D.IC. company's general office, and Walter McMillen, of the D. C. com pany's assay office are detained at their homes this week, being victims of- mumps. Mrs. W. O. Rogers has been very sick for a week or more, having a case of measles. The three children of P. J. Randall, "D" Hill are recovering from chicken pox. . The little daughter of W. J. Wil liams Is seriously ill, having pneu monia. QUANAH TO GET RAILROAD SHOPS Quanah, Tex., Feb. 7. D. E. Brecker, attorney for the Frisco road and for the Quanah, Acme and Pacific rail roads met with the directors of the chamber of commerce last night and submitted a proposition whereby Quanah could get the main shops and terminals of the Quanah, Acme and Pa cific and the Frisco shop. The proposition was accepted at once. Judge Brecker states that the Quanah, Acme and pacific would tie extended to the Pacific coast with very little more delay.
