DEVELOPMENT ALAMOGORDO MAY GET ELECTRIC PLANT Alamogordo, N. M., Feb. 11. Geo. Carl was before the town board for a franchise for the instalation of an electric light plant in this city. Mr. Carl and associates intend to erect a plant for local light and power and for custom service to pumping plants In this vicinity. The board has made a tentative draft of a franchise that would be acceptable to the members which has been forwarded to ITr. Pool has purchased a block In the residence part of town and in the near future intends to build a handsome new home. HQUNDHQUSE IS ulG ENLARGED I Deal For Creamery at Tu- 100 Cows Are Secured. Tucumcari. N. M., Feb. 11. Work has been finished on the 10 additional stalls of the K. P. S. W. roundhouse at Tu cumcan. The work was begun about a month ago. A new track connection between the main yards of the South western and the Dawson branch is be ing made this wee- Work is pro gressing satisfactorily on the deep well which was begun a few weeks ago to furnish an additional water supply to the roundhouse and shops. Bids for a location for the local post office are being called for, the lease on the present building being about to ex pire. Extra room is said to be required on account of the increased business arising from the parcels post. The bids are to be given on the basis of a five year lease. Creamery Seal Closed. Plans for a creamery and butter fac tory in Tucumcari are said to have been at last arranged and it is said that the necassary machinery will be order-d at once. M. It is announced, to get busy on the proposition. Mr. Mor tensen has brought his family and household goods to this place and in tends to make this his future home, if the plans prove a success. In all. more than 1000 cows have been secured for the undertaking, when but 400 or 500 were required to begin oper ations. Farmers throughout the coun ty seem well satisfied with such an un dertaking for this point and will, it Is said, support the plant. THREE CARLOADS OF MACHINERY RECEIVED Much Vddltlonal Eqalpment Arrives For the Illg Shops of the Texas & raclflc Railroad. t Biff Springs. Tex.. Feb. 11. Three ad ditional carloads of new machinery ior the bip T & P. shops in this city have arrived. Included in the shipment is a 30-inch standard lathe, one Nile radial drill a truck and coach wheel lathe and a large flange punch. The electric crane is expected shortly, as it was shipped on January 17. Another recent addition to the new equipment was a 65-horsepower motor. Electricians from Marshall have been ordered here and are to begin the work, of wiring' the shops throughout. It Is planned to have all the new electric driven machinery installed and in running order by the first of April. Big Springs expects to make a strong bid for the new state normal college that is to be located In the 28th sena torial district. The bill has Just been passed by the legislature appropriating $100,000 for its establishment. J M. Robb, proprietor of the Lyric theater, will let the contract in a short time for a new theater building that will cost $12,000. It will be constructed so It can be used as an airdome also. The school board held a session to inaugurate plans for more school room. A new high school building will be erected or additions built onto the pres ent building. The schools are badly crowded, notwithstanding that Big Springs has three separate school build ings. NEW ROAbCIJTS OFF MORE-THAN 40 MILES Langtry, Tex., Feb. 11. Aaron Billings has a large force at work on the coun ty roads in this precinct. The new road connecting with the old government crossing on the Pecos, is being opened. The completion of this road will give a good wagon road from his place to Del Rio. not over 60 miles, when here tofore, going by auto or wagon, it was necessary to travel considerably over 100 miles. T. W. Brown has bought the old But terworth place, and is remodeling it and adding two rooms. Mr. Bi;own will occupy the house. The G. H. bridge gang, under fore man R. E Lee, is in town to build the bridge made necessary through the ex tension of the passing track. The gang is now putting in the stone abatements. Excavation of the big rock cut is about completed, and it is expected that foreman Crist will be ready to lay track T. G. Biggins, In charge of a large extra gang, passed through In his out fit cars en route to Comstock. where the force is replacing the steel in the yard with 90-pound rails. He was doing some repair work near the tracks of the cranes and in some manner got into the way of an approaching crane kod was al most instantly kflled. Mr. Murphy had been working for the company but a short time. ha ing come here from Tuc son about a month or six weeks ago with his wife. He was. a brother-in-law of Fred Crone, of this city. Mr. Murphy leaves a young wife, having been married In Tucson last December. The remains were taken to Tucson for interment. Elisha K. Brooks, aged 62 years, died here after a short Illness with facial erysipelas. Mr. Brock had made Ca nanea his home for a. number of years. He was born In California, where rela tives reside. A queer mal ady has attacked the canine popula tion. All the dogs are droopy for a short time, with blindness, then are seized with fits, soon dying. A large number of pet dogs have succumbed to the disease. Some had to be killed. The Elk Horn school trustees .have employed Prof. Rukoff. of Hope for a six month's school term, beginning about April 1. PARALYZED NEGRO IS CARRIED TO G ALLOWS AND HANGED Jackson. Miss., Feb. 10. Unable to walk or stand, because of a bullet that had paralyzed his spinal cord, Seymour Arnold, a negro, was carried on a streti-her to the gallows at Collins, Miss., and hanged Arnold was executed for the murder of Win. ARIZONANS KICK AT SANTA FE SERVICE Phoenix. Ariz. Feb. 11. State sena tor Fred S. BreenJ of Coconino county, j was me principal witness in a neanni, before the corporation commission, held for the purpose of Investigating the complaint regarding train service given by the Santa Fe on its main line. In the northern part of Arizona. The complaint was that after the three cent fare law was approved by the people, the Santa Fe ordered its employes to discontinue service on trains No. 3 and No. 4, the limited east and west bound trains, to all former stops along the Arizona line except Ash Fork and Williams, junction points. Senator Breen declared that the pub lic had been given good service prior to the issuance of that order. The limited trains stop at Flagstaff, his home town, every day, but the people of Flagstaff are not allowed to use them, and no one is allowed to alight there. Tickets good on that train are not sold at Flagstaff, nor to that point The same applies to all the other sta tions except Ash Fork and Williams. The Santa Fe explained that the lim ited trains were run for the conven- ' ience of through passengers and not for local business. 3IEXICAN ROY SHOOTS OFF A TOE WHILE HUNTING Sunday afternoon a.
