Kansas Citx, Mo.. Feb. 21. Bishop John Joseph Hogan, of the diocese of i western Missouri, the oldest' catholic j prelate in this country, both In years j and point of service, died of pneumo- nia at the ecclesiastical residence here today. For 44 years he had been a bishop. ' Bishop Hogan acquired a cold 16 days ago which immediately developed Into oneumonia. He said at that time: "I will nevsr get over this. My body has grown old in my work and will not out last this illness. Bishop Hogan was born in county' Limerick, Ireland, in 18X9. At the age of 18 he came to the United States and entered a theological seminary in St. Louis, where he was ordained a priest five years later. In 18S7 the church called for an active missionary to open up the wilds of northwest Missouri. Mounted upon his sturdy pony, John the Baptist, father Hogan plunged Into the wastes of that section' of the state teaching his re ligion. A special meeting of tbe state congress has been called immediately and mem bers of that body are now leaving their homos for Hermoslllo. The meeting is called for the purpose of deciding just what stand the state will take in re gard to the condition of affairs in Mexico City. It seems that the state is still loyal to Madero, notwithstanding his present position, and there is a possibility that the state win Keep liseu oui oi any trouble which may arise as a result of the overthrow of the president in Mexico City. ' Many believe that the meeting- will result In a declaration of loyalty to Madero. Feb. 21. There are to be no Democratic or other don keys in the Inaugural parade on March 4. Thie was decided at a meeting of the inaugural committee when It -was asked to pass on the request of a Washington man who desired to lead a donkey adorned with the horns of a hull moose and the tusks of an ele phant. Further the committee decided thei-e should be no other animals in the pa rade aside from horses. This order was occasioned by the reojueet of an organization that proposed to bring a one-eyed elephant dressed in ridicu lous fashion. The committee felt that it would be beneath the dignity of the occasion to permit burlesques of this character. Thursday afternoon the police were in the act of transferring the defend ant to the county court, a complaint charging him with carrying a dagger having been filed in that court, when jailor Duchene picked up the weapon and noticed the stain on its blade. Ser geant Lon Garner examined the dag ger and come to the conclusion that the stain was of human blood. Under the examination of Jesse, C Stansel, chief of the city detective department, Valenzuela is said to have broken down and made a confession implicating hlmsei and three others in the kill ing. A confession was prepared in legal form by assistant ci$y attorney Volney Brown, and the man signed it. according to the police. Rafael, Manuel and Kugenio Porras were arrested by the detectives Thurs day afternoon in connection with the J case. Jose Fierro, -who claimed that he was the owner of the dagger, was arrested at noon Friday. Fierro stated that the dagger had been stolen from his possession about a week ago. He identified it as his, but disclaimed hav ing any connection with the case on which the others are being held. COLORADO SENATOR OPPOSES FULL CREW TRAIN BILL. Denver, Colo., Feb. 21. Considera tion of the full crew train bin brought out a lively discussion in the senate today. The bill provides three brake men on each freight train of 35 cars. Senator conforth, of Colorado Springs, criticised the measure and favored striking out the enacting clause. He said: "You have a bill here to compel the railroads to use a certain head light manufactured by only one firm, another bill to comil them to use a similar block signal system, a bill compelling them to employ more men and one to regulate their affairs. You have not a single bill inviting men to build more railroads in Colorado. I am in favor of striking out the en acting- clause. MICHIGAN RESUBMITS SUFFRAGE Lansing, Mich.. Feb. 21. Tbe house of representatives today passed a res olution providing for the re-submission of the woman suffrage question at the April election this year. The bill now goes to - the senate.
