Foster and Henry Bo .vie. Mrs. Witte announced that the sec ond complimentary music reejtal of the rr uslc department will be given on March 25 in the assembly hall of Hotel I iso del Norte. The program will be in charge of Mrs. W. W. Bvans. assisted by Vrs. J. J. Pearce. The program for the afternoon then followed, and was in charge of Mrs. J. 0 McNary. Mrs. A. F. Sievers gave an interest ing talk on the music of the Viennese Period, from 1756 to 186. Mrs. Sievers JTioke on the social conditions of mu le at this time and of the great diffi culty the musicians had in presenting their work to the public, "Mozart, a German wrote most of the best works in Vienna, including the famous operas. The Marriage of Figaro' and 'The Mag ic Flute." " she said. Mrr. W. R. Brown gave a sketch of the life f each composer before the ii umbers were played or sung, M's. Clarence D. Mrs. T. J. Woodside. who had charge of the meeting, proved a most excellent leader. The scripture lesson was given in four divisions and was read by Mrs. Jno. Schuller. Mrs. T. R. Wilkes. MrsD. M. Hurley and Mrs. S. S. BirchfieW. Mrs. E. P. May of fered a prayer. The Misses Edna Rob ertson, Irene Robertson. Alma McCrum men and Edna Mae White, accompanied by Mrs. Robin Gould, sang "The Sum mer Song." Interesting papers were read by Mrs. Wm. Sachs, Mrs. O. A. Danielson. Mrs. J. Livingston Ely ani Mrs. D. M. Smith. Special prayer for men In official life and for the mothers of the country was offered by Mrs. I. .r. Ayers. A short business session fol lowed the study hour. It was announced that Miss Daisy Davies. field secretary of the Woman's Missionary council of the M. E. church. South, would spend Saturday and Sunday. March 22 and 23. in EI Paso. An 'institute has been planned for the 22d at Trinity church. Miss Davies will also address the wom en Sunday afternoon, the 2Sd. in Trin ity. The social meeting of the society will be held at the home of Mrs. Geo Oliver, Tuesday, the 18th. Dr. W. Walte "will give an illustrated lecture on bacteriology of milk at the Highland Park Methodist church Fri day night The lecture is to be under the auspices of the Highland Park Ep worth league. Scramble or unscramble of the Union Pacific and Southern Pacific, there was no plan to extend the Southwestern -to the Pa cific, he said. "Of course, I do not know what pres ident H. U. Mudge, or the Rock Island, said in California." Mr. Simmons said, "but I do know that there is not the align test intention of extending our road to the coast at this time." Scott superintendent of state prisons, by governor Sulaer. The governor, in pre senting the charges, "wrote Col. Scott that be would be given an opportuninty to be heard. The charges are based largely upon the report submitted by the governor's committee of inquiry and in. part are as follows: "Because of neglect in maintaining proper supervision over Matteawan state hospital, Harry K. Thaw was per mitted to receive and have large sums of money in his possession; that Dr. John W. Russell permitted .various per sona to see Thaw practically wlthoot restriction, and to transact business with him without official surveillance over him: that Thaw was permitted to 'give large sums of mpney to' some one of these persons and money to all of them,' and that Dr. Russell knew that John Nicholson Anhut had received 25.066 in cash and marketable securi ties for the purpose of releasing Thaw from the hospital."
