bear selling. Complications threatened
by the neW phase of the Balkan situa
tion and the spilling out of Investment
stocks at low prices helped to swing

While a number of Issues reached
new low figures, however, recognized
leaders displayed unmistakable powers
of resistance, owing perhaps to the fact
that shorts seized the opportunity to
cover. Losses among the bulk of stand
ard speculative mediums were not se
vere. Bonds were easy.
The market closed weak. Resist
ance shown earlier by Important stocks
to the disturbing Influences affecting
values in other quarters, proved in
