ing to the International standard, and
on December 28, have the promotion
and graduation exercises. A. S. How
ard, assistant superintendent will be
in charge of this program.
The Sunday school has a member
ship of 447 and an average attendance
of 290.

versity at Brookland steadily increases.

were the Franciscans, with their com
missariat and college of the Holy Land,
where American young men are taught
to serve at .Palestine snrines, ana next
came the Sisters of Notre Dame, with
their Trinity college. There are now
Holy Cross college, a part of the great
Catholic institution at Notre Dame. IntL,

IN LARGER CITIES PLANNED
Christian leaders are proposing, as
part of their publicity plans, the
founding of Church News associations
In Tarious cities. These associations
are not to be formed to furnish free
matters to newspapers, but to deal in
church news, local and general, on a
financial basis. Search is making for
trained men. not ministers, to collect
and distribute news, and far more im
portance is to be atached to the reporting-
than to the editorial end. That
is, news is to be news and not mere
opinions. Cities wherein efforts are
already making include Boston, Chi
cago, Cincinnati, and St. Louis. These
are selected, not wholly for their size,
bat because of location in them of
headquarters of various large religious
bodies. They are therefore news cen
ters. It may be added that New York
is already provided with such asso
ciation, successful financially, but con
ducted as others are, not for profit
but to demonstrate for churches an
efficiency plan that supports Itself
and is not a. drain upon charity.
Religious weeklies giving more and
more -attention to general matters of
their respective bodies and less to news
it is purposed as a further part of the
new plan, to establish eventually lo
cal church newspapers, conducted also
on a business basis, and carrying lo
cal and general church news. These
are to be separated by religious bod
ies, but in business ways to be fed
erated. In large measure they are to
replace tne magazine organs of mis
sionary and other societies, which
cost a, lot of money and reach few
people beyond present contributors.
Above all the new localized periodicals
are to carry information, but" to be free
from appeals and arguments. The old
idea of church leaders, that news
papers ought to publish church news
te help Christianity has vanished. The
whole plan is based on merit and
economics, and as rapidly as it can be
carried out the church leaders say the
flooding of editors with free matter
is to come to an end.
