GOMEZ denies he is

SAN AKTONIO, Tex. Dec 19. Emilio Vasquez Gomez, who was reported
yesterday as heading a new revolutionary movement against both Mexican
federal and "Constitutionalist" troops and who, it was reported, counted on
the allegiance of Gens. Pasqual Orozco and Jose Ynez Salazar, today emphati
cally denied the report.
"It is all I can do to get enough to eat for my family, much less to furnish
any funds for a new revolution," said Gomez, adding that he was notnow con
nected with the Mexican politics.
Proclamations with Gomez's picture upon them and bearing his signature in
print are to be found all over El Paso today. Many were in circulation yester
day. If he has not issue them or caused them to be issued, somebody has put
them into circulation. Editor.

oline Tuner. for whose murder Jos.
Morlarity, alias Wm. J. Leehan, a
stenographer. Is on trial here, was i
killed either in an automobile accident
or murdered by persons in an auto- i
mobile, according to the theory of the
defence, outlined at the trial this af
ternoon. H. H. Wainwrig-ht, of the prisoner's
battery of lawyers retained by Mrs. Jas
per Lynch, a society woman of Lake
wood, so indicated in his opening ad
dress to the iurv.
The state rested this afternoon wlttK
the testimony of Geo. Jamison, a de
tective, who told of getting the pris
oner's confidence. The defendant, he
said, told him at one time: -
"Don't get mixed up with a woman.
Tou never can tell what you would do
in a fit of temper."
On cross examination, the witness ad
mitted that the prisoner had never
made any direct reference to the case
of Mrs. Turner. While shadowing the
prisoner, Jamison testified, he over
heard him quarreling with his wife, de
claring that "he had killed one woman
and might kill another."
SIX INDICTED BY
THE GRAND JURY
Indictments were returned Friday
afternoon by the grand jury of the 34tt
district court, as follows:
Bias Aguirre, charged with the mur
der, of VMal Varella at Fort Hancock,
November 8; Luz Macias, charged with
burglary; Francisco 'Martinez, charged
with theft from the person; Marshall
Jackson, charged with exhibiting a ta
ble for gaming: Alfredo Roquillo.
charged with robbery by assault and
assault with intent to rob; M. N. Geddes,
charged with permitting betting on
pool.

Thursday night, refusing to leave -when

clared that he could stop toe stars and
moon by a wave of his weapon. He
was overpowered and will be exam
ined as to his sanity.
FEDERALS RECEIVED AT FORT.
Two Mexican federals were received
at Fort Bliss today and established in
the prison camp. The Mexicans were
sent up from Fort Hancock. They will
be held Indefinitely, until their cases
can be investigated.

Only Three Cent.
Weston Ballicger, aged 13 years, the
adopted child of the police department,
was buried Thursday in the city ceme
tery. The boy died Wednesday at the
county hospital of scarlet fever. Sur
viving the boy is a mother, Mrs. Lila
Ballinger, of 7Z5 F. street, northwest.
Washington, D. C. She is said to be in
destitute circumstances.
Several months ago. Weston left his
home in Washington for a tramp across
the country. His inability to get along
with his stepfather was the reason giv
en. It was his first experience "on the
road," and he was subjected to numer
ous hardships. It was the exposure to
the wind and the weather, the doctor
said, that weakened his condition so
that he was not able to stand the siege
of the fever. Weston came to the po
lice station where he immediately mafie
friends with the police. The police say
that he was an exceptionally bright
boy. Plans were being made by the po
lice to purchase clothes for the boy and
secure him a position when the boy be
came sick. Captain Lon Garner said
that he would furnish the boy with a
home, but when scarlet fever developed
he had to be removed to the county
hospital.
Police cbier r. N. Davis immediately
wired Mrs. Ballinger of the illness of
her son.
The message was sent collect. Thurs
day the chief received a letter from
Mrs. Ballinger. She wrote that she had
only three cents when the message was
delivered at her home and for that
reason was unable to get it. A prepaid i
message sent Thursday notified her of '
her son s death.

WOULD IMPRISON MEN
WHO START "PANICS"
Washington. D. C. Dec. 19. Repre
sentative Church. Democrat, of Cali
fornia, introduced a bill in the house
today which would declare it to be an
offence against the government for
any person "to make or circulate false
statements, e'ther verbally or in writ
ing, in regard to the financial condi
tion of the people and business inter
ests i the United States for the pur
pose of bringing on a stringency in the
money market, generally known as a
"nu-pey panic.' "
The bill would provide purishment
fo- each offence by a fine of $5000 and
impr.sonment for not less than 10
years

leadrr Mann charged that Democratic

Yesterday speaker Clark, in an ad
dress to the house, declared that there
seemed to be a conspiracy on the pari
of Republicans to bring on a threat
ening situation.
COVERJfMEXT GETS SECRET

San Francisco, Calir., Dec 19. When
David Norcross, secretary of the West
ern Fuel company, testified today that
the company's barge and lighterage
business was Conducted by the Western
Transportation company, Theodore
Roche, of counsel for the government,
took the witness in hand and drew from
him an admission that the directors of
the two companies were the same and
that their books were kept in the
same office.
Eight directors, officers and employes
of the Western Fuel company are on
trial, charged by the government with
cheating it out of full weight and ful'
customs dues by an elaborate system
of beating the scales. Part of this al
leged system is predicated on the man
ner in which the company has handled
its coal and transferring it by lighter
age from its pier pockets to steamships
that burned it, and the effort of the
defence was to show that the Westacn
Ful company had no control over this
portion of the business.
