The financial reports of the secretary and treasurer were read, and then the mem !.. wnt nut to lnsrect the home. which is rapidly nearing completion in Government Hill. The home will be completed as rapidly as possible, for the need of an institution of this kind Is very pressing. There has been an average of a case a week for the past six weeks, of girls, ranging from 15 to 17 years, who have come before the Juvenile court for the first time, having made their first false step, and it is for such cases, to give the girls a chance to get on their feet again, and get a start toward right And useful living. Instead of keeping mem locked up in the city and county jails that the home Is being built. During this week the members of the Carpenters' union will each contribute one day's worktoward the completion of the home, which is expected to be ready by the first of September. Much of the furnishing of the interior will be made by individ uals and associations. The Philathea class of the First Baptist church has Eromised to furnish one room, a prom icnt club woman has offered to fur nish the maternity room, and It is hoped that otner people ana organiza tions will donate other furnishings. Among some of the things that will be needed are sewing machines for the work room, and it is also hoped to se rure some kind of musical instrument for the living room. . .;. .;. . v v SOCIAL CALENDAR. De Lade, wife of the as sistant general commissary superin tendent of the El Paso and Southwest ern, arrived Tuesday from Lajolla, Calif, where she has been for soma time. I J! Burrud. formerly of El Paso, who has been In Los Angeles for the paxt year, has returned to make this city his home. Mrs. Burrud has been here for several weeks visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J T. Lindsey. Mr. and Mrs. Stepnen J. Glumaz and their guest, Mrs. Josephine Nations Morfit, returned In a private car Mon day night from Chihuahua. They spent an interesting time in Chihuahua, meeting many of the prominent Con stitutionalist officials and their fami lies. On their return trip their train picked up the stranded box car of George C. Carothers, who was accom panied by Mrs. Carothers. The train in which Mr. and Mrs. Glumaz trav eled was the only one to get to Chi huahua and to be" able to return, other trains being tied up by the washouts. Cloudcroft Notes. U. S. A Jolly watermelon social was heH Monday night by the members of Mat tice Temple. Pythian Sisters, at Wash ington Park. First the members had tHeir regular lodge and business meet ing in the Knights of Pythias hall, and then. In autos, motored out to the park. Formality was laid aside and everyone enjoyed playing games on the lawn. Mrs. Mary "Van Mourlck. Miss Eva Weeks and Mrs. Eugenia Perkins formed the social committee for the affair. The social was attended by about 50 people. Aulomobiling. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Ellis and chil dren, with Mr and Mrs. Bernard Early and Mr. and Mrs. H B. Goodwin. Gor don Goodwin, and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Conrad motored down to Hueco tanks early Sunday morning, arriving in time to cook their breakfast over a camp fire among the rocks of that pictur esque place. After spending the day exploring the caves and climbing the rocks, a picnic dinner was enjoyed, and the partv returned to El Paso late Sundav night The trip was made In two Ford El Pasoans Away. E. Capt. and Mrs. George Tyner left Tuesday afternoon for St Paul. Minn., where they will spend some time visit ing. Mrs. W. L. Foxworth and son Jack, who have been in California for the past few weeks, are expected to" return soon. Leon Castellanes, accompanied by his family will leave Wednesday morning for Havana, Cuba, by way of New Orleans. Mrs. Dee Dorman has gone to Den ver, Colo., where she "will make her home. She left Monday evening on the Santa Fe. Mrs. C. G. Kraft. Mrs. A. B. Hlrigolty and Mrs. C H. Porras left for Cali fornia Monday to spend the warm weather at the beaches. Mr. and Mrs. William Sachs have gone to the Ruidoso, to spend two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Powers at their summer camp. Miss Marguerite Darbyshire. who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Derby shire at Anthony. Is now the guest of Miss Mary E. Cobb, at Anthony. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pomeroy and children and Mrs. Alice Pomeroy have gone to Ocean Park, Calif, to spend the remainder of the summer at the beaches. Mr. and Mrs. Peyton J. Edwards and family will leave Sunday for California, Where they will remain for some time. During their absence their sister. Mrs. John Alkin, of Houston, will occupy their home. Rev. J. F. Williams will leave Thurs day for California to spend the month of August at Long Beach. During his absence his place In the pulpit of the First Baptist church will be filled by the city missionary. Rev. S. L. Hollo way. Miss Anne Lee Gaines will leave Thursday afternoon for New York, to be away for several months. First she will visit in Rochester and Wa tertown, and will spend some time on the great lakes and the St. Lawrence river. In September she will go to New York City and visit her aunt for some time. At the completion of the games an ice course was enjoyed. Mrs. LeRoy Eltlnge will entertain the club next Mondav at her home in Fort Bliss. The Q. E. D. club met Monday after noon at the home of Miss Isabelle Springer, on North St. Vraln street Cards were played and a short business session of the club was held. Miss Margaret Bryan won the prize for the highest score. A dainty ice course was served at the conclusion of the games. Miss Pauline Bryan will be the hostess of the club next week.
