L Har roun for a resumption of federations at the Bradford mine In this district. He proposes to sink a shaft 200 feet deeper. A carload of timbers lias been or dered for the Bradford. Much good copper ore has been shipped from the Bradford in the past and many believed more good ore will be encountered before the shaft rt aches the contemplated depth. The Bradford is operated by the Eonoita Copper company. Gets Jndgrmrnt Against Mine. Dr A. "W. Hardtmayer has secured a judgment In the superior court against the Bland Mining company and Jack Cudahy for S1151 and eosts. Br. JIardtmayer was formerly general manager of the company. Cudahy is the principal stockholder. Takes Over Red Roes: Mine Word has been received here from Tom Fraser. well known mining man. that he has taken over the Red Rock mine at Red Rock, and will at once sink a shaft 200 feet from the present 300 loot level. The Red Rock mine belongs to a strong group of Cincinnati men. Eraser has been operating in the Santa 2UU. mountains for the past few years. Secure Bond On Miner Group. Thomas A. Tate, and B. E. Gartley of Bisbee have secured a bond and lease on the Connecticut group of claims in Josephine canyon and will start iwork at once. The Connecticut 'has shipped many carloads of very fine copper ore within the past two years. It is owned by R. R. Richard son. Denl For Flnx 3Ilne In On. Progress is being made in negotia tions for the purchase of the Flux mine, one of the very largest proper ties in this district. A Los Angeles millionaire, name withheld, is said to be trying to buy it. J.. R. Collie, an engineer who, with Blerce brothers, made a thorough examination of the property lately, has returned to the mine to recheck his findings. The Flax mine is understood to have Im mense bodies of low grade copper ore. Store than 200 samples were taken Xr'ira various parts of the mine and these averaged over $12 a ton, it Is tinderstood. NEW STRIKE MADE IN SIERRA COUNTY Hillsoro, K. JC July 27. Alfred Etrum reports a new strike on the propertv of the Bl-Metallic Mining and Mailing company at Tierra Blanca. A large quantity of rich float has been lound and trenehes recently dug show a large ore body 21 feet wide. The mam float body extends about 300 feet. The Boston, Cape Cod and New York canal, connecting Buzzards Bay with Massa chusetts Bay and enabling coastwise vessels to avoid the dangerous passage around wreck strewn Cape Cod, was formally opened today by August Bel mant of New Tork, president of the constructing and operating company. The canal shortens by 70 miles the shipping distance between the ports to 'the north and the south of it. Although the canal has actually been open from one ehd to the other since earlr this-month. no vessels other than those belonging to the owners of the through It. The canal will be open to traffic .tomorrow and will be com pleted In all Its details about the first of October. , , In 13 Miles lone. The Cape Cod canal is 13 miles long. Including a cut through sand and boulders from Buzzards Bay to Sand wich. Mass. It has a bottom 100 feet in width, shelving out to J00. and 400 feet at the passing points, 'and has a draught of 25 feet at low tide. Greater in its dimensions than the Suez canal, as originally constructed, , it can accommodate the largest coast- i wise vessels afloat, with one or , two! exceptions. ' At tne eastern ena is a massive breakwater 3800 feet long, which con tains more than 350.008 tons of granite. I This is designed tp protect vessels ' using the canalVorn the storms that sweep across Cape Cod bay. ' The $12,000,800 which has been ex- 1 pended in the constructing of the canal has been spent largely in excavating some 7,880,800 cubic feet of sand and boulders. The canal is In reality a river, mak ing all of CaneCod an island, for there Is considerable difference between the tides in Massachusetts bay ana Buz zards bay, causing a sluggish current. To Play Important Part. The canal Is destined to play an Im portant part in the future commerce along the Atlantic coast of North America. At the present time more than 25.888,080 tons of freight are transported over the Cape Cod route annually, including coal. 12,888.000 tons; stone. 380,880 tons: Nova Scotia plaster. 358.888 tons; Rockland-Rock-port lime, 110.088 tons; cement. 50,008 tons; oil. 210 tons; ice. 300,088 tons: lumber. 2,888,088 tons, nad sand. 60. 888 tons. Other commodities carried in barges and freighters amount to 3, 000.008 tons, while regular steamship lines of the higher class carry as car go 2.888.080 tons of freight around the cape every year. Many Travel Around Cape. It is estimated tmft 588.888 persons a year are carried around Cape Cod. In the past 8 years, it Is said. 2880 vessels of various kinds have been wrecked while attempting the passage and between 780 and S88 lives have been lost. Tolls for vessels passing through the canal will average In the neighborhood of 7 cents per cargo ton per passage and for vessels without cargo, over 588 tons gross register, the rate will be about 5 cents per ton. SMELTERS COMPETE FOR SAN SIMON ORE San Simon. Ariz July 29. So desira ble is the class of ore from the Willie J Rose mine, near here, that the 1 Paso and the Copper Queen smelters are competing for it, it Is stated. A rep resentative of the latter company is to be here in a few days to Inspect the ore and. If It suits him, to make a bid for its treatment. The ore is now going to the EI Paso smelter. The last car shipped Is ex pected to net $12 to $15 a ton. A carload of mining machinery will soon be ordered. It will consist of a hoist, oil engine, drills and com pressor. The lower shaft Is now 124 feet deep and continues to look better with every shot. It is planned to continue to a depth of 150 feet before attempting to crosscut the ore body. WORK AT REYMERT MINE IS RESUMED Florence. Ariz July 29. Work has been Resumed by the Gunn-Thompson people at the Reymert mine, in accord ance with an announcement made a short time ago. The shaft, which Is now 2S0 feet deep, will be sunk to at least the 500 foot level, it is believed. It was originally Intended to spend $150,000 to $208,888 on this property; and that Intention may now be ad hered to. The management now hopes to locate a copper deposit. The mine was first located as a silver property. Richardson, of the Scottish Rite supreme council of the southern Jurisdiction of the United states, has been received by secretary W. H. McCalloogh. of the El Paso bodies of that rite of Freemasonry. Mr Richardson died at his home, in Murfreesboro, Tenn- Friday at the age of 71 yeais. He was a member of con gress from his stte for a long period. but gave up his political work several years ago to devote the remainder of his life to the Scottish RHe. Mr Richardson was In El Paso sir years ago. when be made an official visit to grand commander Jose Castel lot of the supreme council of Mexico, at Mexico City.
