Aveszano nn Immense Cemetery.
J ollowing is the recital of an Avez
Zdno refugee:
"I can best describe Avezzano by
calling it an immense cemetery," this
man said. "From the ruins of the
t yjlege for young men we heard a
frantic appeal for help. 'There are Ku
us. us syll alive here, help us quickly.'
.Soldiers and civilians rushed to the
scene and when I left were doing their
best to cut way through the mass of

St. Peter's Is Dnmnged.
The director of the observatory at
Home declared that the earthquake was
the most severe that ever had been re
corded on his instrument. No fewer
than 150 large panes of glass in St
Peter's. 46 of which are in the dome,

A. Hen & Co. have been recognized
as the producers of one of the city's
most important "Hade in El Paso"
products.
An order was received from Ansonia.
Conn., Friday through the chamber uf
commerce, for a shipment of three cases
of eggs each month during the winter.
The order was unsolicited and will be
filled by one of the local produce com
panies . The first shipment of "Made
in El fPaso" eggs will be shipped at
once and will compete with the New
England mince pie as a breakfast food
on the Connecticut tables.
Secretary A. W. Reeves says the field
is an important one and, if the local
egg dealers will cultivate the market,
hundreds of cases of eggs could be
shipped to the New England states dur
ing the year.

TOLL OF EARTHQUAKE DEAD
INCREASES BY THOUSANDS
London, Eng., Jan. 15. The Ex
change Telegraph company has re
ceived a message from its Rome cor
respondent who says the magnitude of
the Italian disaster increases as further
news from the devastated area is re
ceived. The casualties at Magllano-di-Marsi
are estimated at 1300 out of a popula
tion of 1500. At Pesoini, 4000 persons
are reported killed and the number of
dead at San Benedettovis given as 3001).
ITALY NEEDS NO AID

NACO TROOPS EXPECTED TO BE
ORDERED TO FORT BLISS SOON
Troops of the 6th infantry brigade
and the 6th artillery are expected to be
ordered to Fort Bliss from Naco, Ariz .
within the next two weeks. The troops
were ordered there from Texas City
and Fort' Bliss when the situation at
Naco, Son., became critical, and Gen.
Scott went there from Washington.
As the Juarez agreement provides
that there will be no more fighting on
the Mexican side at Naco, there is no
longer need for the United States
troops to remain at Naco, Ariz.
There are no provisions for barracks
fliere and it is probable that the troops
will be ordered to Fort Bliss, which
has been enlarged and is provided with
additional camp grounds air ready for
the troops.
TRAFFIC VIOLATOR, ARRESTED.

rested y Capt. Lon Garner, of the po
lice force. Friday morning on a charge
of reckless driving. The complaint
was made by a Mexican boy who claims
that the di iver ran over his bicycle
on a downtown street Thursday afternoon.

agent of the Texas & Pacific railroad,
will arrive this evening from Dallas
with a party of railroad officials. Mr.
Hunter is a brother of judge F. K.

Chisels Fail to Make En

Wednesday night attempted to loot the
former branch of the Banco National,
on Lcrdo avenue. Juarez. The attempt
was unsuccessful, the robbers being j
frightened away.
An examination of the vaults dis
closed the fact that the burglars must
have been working for at least an hour
to gain an entrance. The combinations
had been chiseled pff the vault doors
and an attempt had beei made to tear
off the hinges ofhe big steel doors.
No attempt had been made to use an
explosive.
GOLFERS OF SOUTHWEST
WILL PLAY IN DOUGLAS
The first annual golf tournament of
the Southwestern Golf association will
be played in Douglas, Ariz., Saturday
and Sunday. This tournament is ex
pected to take the place of the old
El Paso-Douglas golf tournament. How
ever, no one is expected to go to Doug
las for the first tournament as all of
the golfers are too busy with the "Made
in El Paso" exposition and other busi
ness to get away.
e'JIT TO CLOSE A CLUB.
The state has brought suit in the Slth
district court against Ben Teneyuque,
Guadalupe Soto and Geronimo Garsa,
seeking to restrain them from selling
liquor. It is alleged in the petition that
the defendants operate the Oklahoma
club at 2206 Oklahoma street and that
they are selling liquor without a ii-,
cense.
