Holliday and himself. After some discussion it was decided to elect the auditor and assistant sec retary at once, to replace H. A. Schaf fer. F. K- Sawyer was placed in nomi nation. When the motion was put. trustees Hawley. Stevens and Frueden thal voted "aye." and trustees Holli day. Pickett and Adams, "no." The president cast the deciding vote in fav or of Mr. Sawyer. A motion prevailed that Mr. Schaffer's salary continue to the end of the month, but that Mr. Sawyer should take office at once. A motion carried that the salary of Mr. Sawyer be fixed at $160 per month, trustee Holliday voting "no " Mr. Schaffer has been drawing $150. Snpt, Tlghe Ileeleeted. A motion was made that the office of superintendent of schools be filled at this meeting. It was amended by trustee Holliday, the amendment plac ing In nomination Supt Tighe at a sal ary of $4000 per year, an increase of $400 over his present salary. Trustee Stevens offered an amendment that the salary be fixed at $250 per month, or $4200 per year. This amendment was accepted, and Mr. Tighe was reelected at $4200 per year. An appropriation of $40 was voted to defray the expenses of the forth am znz closing exercises of the elementary grades. Water for School Garden. A letter from Walter Kohlberg. chairman of the civic improvement committee of the chamber of commerce. was read, calling attention to the fact that four school gardens had been established on vacant lots in the south ern part of the city and that thse rantnt reini--efi watering and the con struction of fences to protect them. He stated that the city had refused the request that free water be given and that fences be Drovided. The request was referred to the external commit- . tee. ! Supt. The purpose of the raise, it is stated. is to equalize the lands with the values placed by the county assessor upon the alternate sections owned by private In dividuals. It Js pointed out that the value of Texas & Pacific lands last year was placed at W cents per acre, while that of individual owners -anged from 96 cents to SI per kcre. The raise is 40 cents per acre It affects S41.0GU acres owned by the railroad system within the county and will Increase the county's revenue about 1.00. It was announced following the meet ing that other raises in valuation were of minor importance. M ork Completed.
