Denver advices say: "Under the Wilson j tariff, zinc bearing ore and zinc concen- trates are coming almost free of duty from the Australian mines, with the owners of which American emeling companies recently made contracts for the delivery at Galveston and Perth Amboy of 85.000 tens. This Is largely In tbe form of 46 percent spelter concentrates, a very desirable material from the standpoint of the smelters. The price is said to be 36 per hundred pounds delivered to American ports, compared to 814 to 320 per hundred pounds in New York and Boston I market." Government Buying Up Copper. New York dispatches say that Lake Su perior copper companies under contract with the United States government are turning out enormous quantities of copper for use in the manufacture of ammunition. The Qolncy company has sold nearly its entire output for the year under contracts which are not subject to annulment. Calumet & Heda is understood to have sold its output through December under similar contracts at prices above 20, cents a pound. All previous pro duction figures will be broken this year.
