Tombstone. Ariz, Jane Is Twenty
thousand Dead of Socora cattle will be
brought into the United States at the
port of Naco by July 1, according1 to
an estimate furnished by ltvesticfc
inspector Porter McDonald. The cattle
trill be shipped, be said, by the Greene
Cattle company. Mexican cattle, it is
said, will bring fairly good prices.
While the quarantine on cattle from
"Mexico has not been lifted by Arizona,
stock may be imported nnder special
permit from the livestock sanitary
board and it is under this restriction
that the cattle are to be crossed from
Sonora.

on June 22 to perfect the organization,
will be attended by a large number of
the Deming business men who will

Yavapai county between March 1 and

Mayer to Wyoming, and several hun
dred head are moving out of Kirkland
each week, chiefly to Denver
Seligman cattlemen have contracted
to deliver 6.000 head In June. About
2.000 head will be shipped from Wil
liamson valley this month, and already
shipments from Walnut Ofove total

of El Paso, and J T Ragsdale of Mid
land. Tex, have been here for the past
week buying cattle In the southern
part of the count), a large number
have been bought and will be shipped
to Midland. At Rodeo P R. Sanders,
H. C Washburn and J. G. Henderson

Harry Young have contracted for the
cattle around Hachita, while other dis
tricts are preparing to sell the total
yearling crop at fancy prices. The

Lifted Embargo Brings
Rush of Mexican Stocks;

More than 100 carloads of cattle from
Mexico were passed through this city
last week, the first week of the lift
ing of the quarantine on cattle. The
greater amount of tbese cattle wera

made to this point from Sonora since
the Mexican quarantine was lifted. The
stray American cattle that were
gathered up in northern Sonora to he
sent to this side are still being held by

be shipped from the Yuma and Salt
River valleys during this season, ac
cording to estimates- of local cattle
men. The shipment from the Yum
valley will be later than from othe

PALOMAS CATTLE COMPANY
SHIPS 2300 HEAD TO DENVER
Columbus; N JL, June S A total of
2.100 head of cattle have been shipped
through this port from the Paiomas
Land and Cattle company during the
past two weeks. Arthur McCormlck
is now in Mexico rounding up another
herd of cattle which will be crossed
this week.
The cattle shipments are being made
to the Denver market and are bringing

HANSFORD COUNTY CATTLE
REVEL IN RICHEST OF GRASS
Hansford. Texas, June 8 Hansford
county cattle are getting fat on the
most nutritious and most abundant
grass ever known ha the county, and
there is water in abundance on- all of
the ranges. W C Cable, owner of a
large ranch on Palo Duro creek, says
conditions have never been better In
his section. Calves are in excellent
condition and already many inquiries
are being made by prospective buyers.
SHEARING IS UNDER WAY IN
PANHANDLE; LAMB CROP LARGE

as 12 machines to an engine, are being
used by sheepmen of the Panhandle

Tempe, Ariz, June 8. At 1 1-4 cents
a pound a Kansas City firm has con
tracted with John Anderson, of Tempe,
for 144 head of mime beef steers-.

prevailing price tms spring has been
around 6 1-4 cents. Andersen expects
to ship at the same time. about 204
more steers, which he will sell In Kan
sas City at the market price.
TWO TRAINLOADS SHIPPED
FROM THE PECOS COUNTRY
Pecos, Texas, June 8. Two special
train loads of cattle were shipped out
of the Pecos country during the past
week- One train of 20 cars was ship
ped by Val Keen to Portales. The
other, 30 cars, were loaded at Van
Horn and were consigned to the Ameri
can Livestock & Loan company, at
Bovina. Texas. They were from the
J. Z. Means A. Co, ranches near Val

Hereford bulls and a car of registered
Hereford cows will be shipped to th
Portales valley by F. E. Wilson from

local ranchman to breed up the stock
of this valley.
Homey & Jordan have received 4:
head of pure blood. Hereford heifers
and will be added to the big herd of
thoroughbreds which this firm ow-us

Oral Keen has also shipped In a
mixed bunch from Pecos. Tex, and will
place them on the Keen ranch. Th
stock includes cows, calves and steer

which now numbers more than 500

600 sheep Is considered by Bob Dunlap
as an excellent crop He has Just
finished his shearing and Is preparing
the crop for market.

are also yielding a good .crop.

During the week about 120 cars or
cattle from the west were handled
through this citv by the T & P. Of the
Mexican stock not more than a dozen
carloads were sent to market. The
Mexican stock is in fair condition, but
the greater part of it is being sent to
range at Odessa, Hale Center, Pecos
and Spur, Anumber of shipments from
around Lordshurg have been handled
through this city. This stock is in gooj
condition and a considerable part of it
is being sent direct to market.
Range conditions Jn west Tex-is are
excelent and cattle-sen believe that
t) summer will be one 'of the best in
many seasons. The range in southern
New Mexico and Arizona is also good.
No large shipments of Arizona or New
Mexico stock ate scheduled for this
week, but there will be another large
bunch of Mexican stock through the
inner parr oz ine week.
SIERRA BLANCA ROADS ARE
TO BE REPAIRED AT ONCE
Roads out of Sierra Blanca are to
receive attention, as a result of work
authorized at a meeting of the county
commissioners Monday afternoon.
Commissioner J. M. Walling was au
thorised to expend 225C on roads lead
ing out of Sierra Blanca and to use the
road equipment for repair work.
Commissioner Walling was also au
thorized to engage a civil engineer to
survey the Lanier road at Sierra
Blanca.

RUST HAD EATEN GOOSENECK
POLES, HENCE THE ACCIDENT
Investigation of the two gooseneck
lights which tne Jitne driver pulled over
on San Jacinto plaza Saturday night,
shows that the poles had rusted off at
the ground. Iron pipes were set into
the ground to anchor the poles and
flaring east Iron bases covered the
-outside of these. These bases hid the
iron from the sunshine and water run
ning under the bases had rusted and
eaten the iron anchor poles until they
were as thin as paper and it took very
little weight to" pull th'ern down. The
others are probably in toe same condi
tion and probably would Jail as easily.

the stockmen's meeting and not spent
is being expended In improving the
town. An additional purchase of fire
hose has been made, more fire plugs
are to be installed and the tank kept
filled with water at all times to be used
only for fire.
Committees have been appointed by
the board of trade to make inspections
of the fire hose and learn the needs of
the town.
