Clubs Urges President to
Aid Peace Move.

cub women, at a meeting of the Fed
e at ion of Women's club, held at Canu
tllo, sent a telegram to president Wil
son urging him to do all in his power
to further the movement for interna
tional peace.
The resolution authorizing the send
ing of the message to the president, was
adopted following an address on peace.

Frcnger announced that the Dona Ana.
r? deration is the second In New Mexico
to take action ia favor of international
peate.
The Peace Telegram.
The telegram urging president Wil
son to call a peace conference of neu
tral nations, sent by Las Cruces citi
zens, -was as follows:
. ('ltizens of Las'Cruces respectfully
9 urge ou to cooperate with other neu-
'-al governments in calling conference
of neutral nations, whieb would consti
tute a voluntary court of continuous
mediation, invite suggestions for set
tlement from warring nations, and in
anv case submit simultaneously to all
of them reasonable proposals as a basis
for peace."
The Aladdin club was host for the
Federation at Caautillo for the Novem
ber meetnig, the sessions being held in
the school house.

Bids for the construction of the new
courthouse were opened at the meeting
of the county commissioners' court
Tuesday morning. A large number of
bids were received and the county
courtroom was crowded with con
tractors and interested spectators.
On the general contract. Including
construction of the building and audi
torium, and plumbing and wiring, the
bid of J. IS. Mot-van, amounting to
J44:.S4I. is the lowest. Substituting
granite for brick and terra ootta base,
the bid of Otto P. Kroeger and May
field & Shaw, is .silently lower than that
of Mr. Morgan.
With the opening of the bids the
court adjourned to lieet this after
noon with Troet & 'frost, architects,
to go over and tabulate te bids.

valley on a picnic
They claim they did not go on a
hunting trip but took a gun along. A
deputy game warden arrested them,
took them before a justice of the peace
at La Union, who keeps shop on Sun
day as well as on week days, and they
were each finej $52.50.
Their wives were along and "en
joyed" the outing with them.
WIFE OF G. H. OFFICIAL DIES;
FLAG LOWERED IN SYMPATHY
Mrs. Mary Allen, wife of Harry Allen,
general car foreman of the G. II. sc S.
A., died Sunday evening at 7 oclock at
their home. 705" Bast Missouri street.
Mrs. Allen Mi Been ill for more than
a vear.
Mrs. Allen was S9 years old at the
time of har death and is survived by her
husband, a son. Raymond Allen, aged 6.
her mother. Mrs. Mary Peterson, who
is 80 years old: her sister. Mrs. Jennie
Barkes. or 905 Myrtle avenue; a sister.
Mrs. Anna Bess, of Salt Lake City, and
a brother. John Peterson, whose present
location is not known.
The funeral arrangements have not
yet been made and the family is await
ing the arrival of Mrs. Alien's sister
from Salt Lake. Because of her ad
vanced age her mother will be unable
to come to El raso but Mrs. Bess is ex
pected Wednesday.
Mr. Allen, who is one of the oldest
members of the G. II. car department,
has received telegrams of sympathy
from president Scott, vice president G.
S. Waid and other high officials of the
G. H. & S. A. .
The nag was lowered to half mast on
the flagpole of the G. II. yards Monday
morning and will be left there until
after the funeral, which will probably
be held Thursday.

the home, with interment in Concordia
cemetery.

him.
Vucovich, who had been a resident of
Bisbee and Douglas for mare than 2v
years, was said to have been despondent
recently because of the absence of two
of his sons, fighting with the Servian
army, and the recent death of his wife.
He was said to have acquired consider
able property here.

THINKS PROHIBITION MAKES
REFORM SCHOOL SHOW LOSS
Phoenix. Aria, Nov. . There are 5
boys and 1 girls at the state Industrial
school, according to superintendent T.
K. Pulliam, who is in Phoenix on offi
cial business. The total attendance is
approximately 10 percent less than at
this time last year.
"I can't explain the decrease in the
number of children sent to the reform
school unless prohibition is responsi
ble." said the superintendent.
A heavy rain fell a few days ago at
Fort Grant, where the school Is situ
ated. Preparations are now being
made to plow up much of the school
farm and plant winter wheat and bar

When the trunk arrived at Winkelmap It
