CoL Hipolito Villa stated Thursday that 300 men had been sent out from the capital of Chihuahua state to aug ment the force of Villistas in the town of Ojinaga, claiming that the town was still loyal to Villista colors, fn face of statements to the contrary by Carran cista agents. CoL Hipolito Villa issued a statement Thursday afternoon in which he em phatically declared that no Carrancista agents had been working among the troops in the Juarez garrison: that there never had been a turn over threatened there or at Ojinaga. and that the only way Carranza could take the city would be by an armed force. "Carrancistas are trying to win vic tories in Mexico through the American newspapers." said Col. Villa. "Carran cista consuls and secret agents are do ing their work in distributing fake news to the press. They cannot win from us here, with their army. "For instance, they claim that Ojinaga has been turned over to them. This is a bold face lie. for Ojinaga Is still ours, and we have just sent 200 men out from Chihuahua city to rein force the small body of our men there. Snyn Ornelai Han 23 Men. "The truth of this business is that Gen. Tomas Ornelas with 28 men has been working to get Ojinaga to desert Villista ranks. His success has been reported varying, but not once has the declaration for Carranza been maVle by that town. Garcia in El Paso Friday morningC di rect from Mexico City, declared that the national currency exchange rate for gold has become demoralized, and charges are made that money brokers are scheming to injure the Constitu tionalist government through the de preciation of its paper. 1 Speculators in the currency are stat ! ed to be almost exclusively Spaniards, many of whom have been driven from business in Veracruz for similar tac tics antagonistic to the government. The circulation of alarming reports is placed at? these doors, and misrepre sentation of the manner in which pres ent issues are being exchanged for new paper is being carried forward vigor ously, it is said. Speculators are frightening holders of the old currency with reports of illegal profit making on the part of the recognized government.
