Next Meeting Will Be One
for Suggestions After
At the regular monthly meeting; ot
the Ascociated Charities directors,
held Tuesday night in the Roberts
Banner building;, a suggestion was
made that the directors should take a
more personal interest in the details
of the work of the various depart
ments and a motion was posted that
the next regular meeting be called
"suggestions meeting' and every one
of the 21 directors is required ac
cording to the motion to visit tho
buildings of the Associated Charities
before the next meeting and be pre
pared to make at least one suggestion
for improving the work. All the mem
bers readily agreed to this.
The chairman of the various com
mittees gave reports of the work of
their department during the past
summer. One of the most interesting
reports was that given by Mrs. H. W.
Broaddus for the children's day nurs
ery. She said that a new playhouse
had been erected on the grounds at
the cost of S90 and that some play
ground apparatus were to be added
in a very short time. An average ol
42 children have been taken care of
there each day. while their mothers
work. This committee requires that
the mothers who leave children there
must really go out to work and have
no relatives or older children at home
to look after these children.

Mrs. T. W. Lanier told of the plans
for the sale of Red Cross seals and
of the work of the tuberculosis com

had had 17 tubercular Mexicans under
their care, but that most of the tuber.
J culars were Americans. The sum of
$1459 has been spent in tubercular ro
Hef work, secured from the sale ot
Red Cross seals, since January 1 of!
this year, she reported.
U. S. Stewart told of the efforts of
the finance committee to keep up the
renewals of last year's contributors.
He said despite the war, very few
have failed to renew ; where the work
is at ail understood tne response has
been quite liberal and a few have
increased their contributions from
The reports of the visiting nurses

Had 217 Families Under Care.
The secretary's report showed that
during the month of August there
were 217 families under care and that
material relief was given in some
form to 113. He told of several In
stances where families had been made
self sup por tin? without material help
and where deserting husbands had
been united to their families. The em
ployment department had a busy
month also. Regular work was found
by the week or month for 132 and

gave lodging during the month to 4&

milk station 1527 pints of sweet milk
were given away and in addition six
families are receiving from one to two
quarts every day delivered at their
homes. Most of these are tuberculars,
the report said.
