tions are active In Panola and Shelby
counties of east Texas. In this vicin
ity great showings of gas have been
found In a number of wells. The Na
tional Oil company's well In the
southwestern part of Panola county
encountered a gas pressure at 1110
feet ao. strong that It was only with
the greatest effort that the tools were
kept In the hole. The well was
abandoned at 2009 feet on account of
a lest string of casing In the hole.
However, a second well was started
in the same district bv the National
Oi! company. Tkis well is drilling at
1 C50 feet. It is situated on the Sabine
uplift of the same sand and age as.
the Olaibourne and De8oto Parishes
in Louisiana. The company plans to
complete this well around 2290 feet.

cal formation for miles in every
direction around the Pecos district,
and in no place does the formation
Justifj the belief that there ls a pool
of oil except in the Tularosa Basin.
The southeastern part of this basin
seems to have all the physical con
ditions requisite to this large pool
of oil.
"South of us we hare a granite
dyke running across the country.
"East, north and partly on the west
we have the Guadalupe mountains.
"Southeast of us where the dyke
and mountains cross, there seems to
be a break which would permit the
lighter oi! to pass through to the
Pecos district.
Ideal For Oil.
"By going down 1250 from that
to 2000 we would have an ideal in
cline for the oil to ascend if n e found
it In the Pecos valley at the depth
of from 650 to 1000 ft, which is
the depth at which the seep is en- j

ing Z09 oarrels or oil per day. The
No. 1 on this property came in about
15 days ago with an initial produc
tion of 400 barrels.' It dropped to
150 barrets.
The Roxana Petroleum company's
well on the Donnelly tract, 10 miles
southwest of Graham, haa increased
its flow and is now believed to be
good for 200 barrels. This well came
in several days ago. It has not yet
4een completed. The Roxana? people
are planning to drill five wells ad
joining this test during the coming
winter.
The North American Oil company
will drill a couple of wells in this
vicinity It is drilling at a depth of
609 feet is one well a mile and a
half east of the uonneuy trace
BEAVER VALLEY COMPANY
TO DEVELOP 12 FOOT SAND
The Beaver Valley Oil and Refining
company is to develop a li foot sand
struck at 22 feet in Its Hodges No.
1 well near Nocona, Montague county,
Texas. This is to be done with two
star rigs. The Hodges No. l was a
contract for a deep teat but it was
estimated that this shallow sand was
good for 15 to 25 barrels and would
probauly settle aown to live to v
dalr-Oulf Oil company on the Man
ning tract It Is the company's No. 2
on the property and began flowing
after being shot with 28 quarts of
nitroglycerin from a death of 3156
feet.. This well is an extreme south
western edge well and may mean the
extension of the deep pay sand.

ACREAGE IN COSTAL FIELD
The Columbia Oil and Leasing com
pany recently organised at Albu
querque and Incorporated under the
laws of New Mexico with a capitali
zation of $500,000, owns acreage in
the West Colombia field SS miles
south of Houston, Texas. All the In
corporators are Albuquerque and
Santa Fe, N. M.. people except Thomas
H Dees, of Dallas. It is claimed that
Dees was one of tbe incorporators
of the Hog Creek company, which
waa sold out to the Magnolia Petrol
eum company for $10,000,000, netting
a profit of $26,000 a share of the Hlg
Creek company holdings.
