London Teachers Win
Wage Boost Battle
London. SSng., July 6. After a long
and desperate struggle, the London
school teachers have won their fight
for higher wages, although the vast
majority of the teachers throughout
the British Isles are still drawing pre
war pay.
The new scale for London elemen
tary school teachers is zoa pounds
(SsOs) for men Just entering the pro
rMion. Tislnsr to 425 nonnds annually.
Women teachers will start at 187
pounds It shillings, rising to J0
pounds annually, wiw women priacr
pals drawing 1M pounds.
As in America, the nay of teach
ers is so small that few persons are

and service. The school teachers.
most of whom are men. win not aver
age for the primary grades more
than 240 pounds annually. The women
teachers have been fighting a losing
battle for equal pay.
