I've had enough letters of similar tenor to believe that there are a lot of other 'Ulscourageds in the world Of course men don't want in srn ont this way forever, any more than girls do. The desire for love and home and companionship and children ti just as normal and human today as its was when Father Adam and Mother Eve set up housekeepins;. But it isn't as easy now as It was then to establish a home. It is to economic conditions that the lateness or never-nerness of marriage today is due. To this and to one ugly thing on which I am sorry to have to dwell. Let's deal with it and get it over as far as our chat is concerned. Unfortunately, however. H Isn't so easy to dispose of as all that. The infreqnency of marriage or its law of diminishing returns in certain cricles is due to the attitude of women. There are too many women who do not think in terms of the sac redness of real love. Because of them, men put off the responsi bilities entailed by marriage. They are allowed to take a cheap substi tute for the biggest of human emo tions. And they smile cynically and ask "Why not?" When women set a higher standard and demand more, the morality of the world will advance to meet their re quirements. They have the power. If once they choose to use it. But it is the economic pressure of today that makes men loath to set tle down. This, plus the extrava gance of woman and her lack of train ing to be a real helpmate.
