The revision tales that are

THE TACOMA TIMES
IT'S MT. TACOMA NOW
It is "Mt. Tacoma."
The original Indian name of the beautiful mountain that
stands guard over this city is to be preserved despite the attempt
of an English navigator, who wanted glory, and the machinations
of a jealous city on Elliott bay, whose representative at Washing
ton trad the name changed on the government maps with the pur
pose to injure Tacoma.
On the presentation of the matter to the Northern Pacific rail
way Dy the Tacoma Commercial clufo, the railroad lias decided to
hereafter call the mountain by its proper name In its advertising
matter.
A. D. Charlton, assistant general passenger agent, and the trus
tees of the Commercial club met yesterday and went over the matter
and the railway official decided to put the mountain on the maps
hereafter as Mt. Tacoma.
Now If Tacoma can get a representative at Washington who
will do things he could probably get It changed also on the govern
ment maps and the great mountain will then be called what the pre
historic races decided it should be called.

Chairmen Buchanan, a "dry,"

There was an effort made to

No Race Suicide
In Tacoma
It is too late to get in on the
contest or that $50 might be taken
down with the slogan "Start Your
Children In Tacoina."
Anyway, the boosters might
take note of the January mortu
ary report, which showß this place
Is a world beater for children. Not
a child between the ages of one
and five years, died during Jan
uary. Only five under one year
died. Thi3 is remarkable.
The stork had a close race with
Old Father Time, however, and
only come out six ahead, with a
score of 74 to 68, but the deaths
were not among the little folks.
There were nineteen deaths be
yond 65 years of age and 19 be-i
tween the ages of 45 and 65. The'
old folks just wore out and passed
away, but the young people are
not dying in Tacoma.
Cancer took seven, tuberculosis
six, heart disease five, pneumonia
four, and two got tired of life and
shuffled off by the suicide route.
There were no deaths from
smallpox, scarlet fever or chicken
pox, and there was not a case of
meningitis in the whole city.
Two citizens drank themselves
to death.
In the birth column there were
40 girls to 3 4 boys. This looks
bad and indicates the old maid
crop in the future will increase.
To make It worse the death list
contained eight more males than
females. This shows a clear bal
ance in favor of the girls for the
month of 14.
