I EVANS GETS COURT AID i On a complaint issued by Police Judge Evans, Mayor Fawcett today Is temporarily prohibited from Interfering with the police judge in bis duties. In a writ of prohibition issued by Judge Chapman, tbe mayor is cited to appear in court June 3 and show cause why he should not be absolutely restrained. Evans, In his complaint, declared that since the mayor revolted his appointment as police judge Tuesday, he had "attempted to har rass, embarrass and interfere with him in the performance of his duties," by warning prisoners not to pay any attention to orders of the police judge. CUT OUT DREADNOUGHTS WASHINGTON, D. C, May in.—After a five-day deadlock, the housecommittee yesterday tailed to provide for the two dreaduaughts and two battle cruisers recommended by Bee. Daniels, and failed to approve the proposed five-year building progrum. Tbe bill finally agreed to authorize the construction in 1917 of five battle cruisers, four scout cruisers, 10 destroyers, 20 submarines, one hospital ship, one oil fuel Bhip and one ammunition ship. U. S. INDICTS DRUGGIST The federal grand jury late yesterday indicted George Gill, Ta coma druggist, on charges of importing liquor from California In cases labeled "seeds." This is the first federal action taken in this state since the prohibition law went into effect. Gill furnished $1,000 bail. A charge of keeping liquor for illegal sale is pending against hini in the superior court also as the result of the seizure of tho "seeds." SEATTLE DOCTORS HELD SEATTLE, May 19. —Charged with violating the prohibition law by issuing prescriptions for liquor where it was not needed for medi cinal purposeg, four Seattle physicians are being held bere today on information filed by the prosecuting attorney. They are Drs. S. H. Starbuck, Wyllis A. Silllman, Milton A. Van Dyke ami Y. Yamamoto. The proprietors of the Smith Drug Co. also were charged with liquor violations. WILL RAISE BOAT FARE Faros on all other boat lines on the Sound, outside of Puget Sound Navigation Co. boats, will be Increased June 1, it was learned today. No hearing before the public service commission will be necessary, as the rates merely will be restored to what they were under a former authorization. The proposed Tacoiua-Seattle Increase Is awaiting the decision of the public service commission. The In creases will run from 2~< to T>o cents on round trip fares. TALK HEALTH QUESTIONS Problems of public health were discussed at the Presidents' j council yesterday by Dr. E. A. Rich, new head ol' the city health i board; \V. Q, Osburn, assistant superintendent of city schools, aud J Dr. R. J. Carey of the Mountain View sanatorium. Dr. Rich declared : that Tacoma is far behind neighboring cities in its health work, and that "it is only by the grace of God aud the location of the city on' v hillside that has kept us ac well as we are."
