Edwin Barnes, of Orcas island, 69 years of age, has been held for trial In the superior court charged with the abominable crime of incest, his Victim being his eldest daughter, about 16 years of age. From her own testi mony, plainly and simply given, and that of the younger children, there can be no doubt of the unnatural father* guilt. The extreme penalty for this crime provided by the law of this state is much too mild for the punishment of such a brute. The motherless young girl so cruelly wronged, and for whose condition a debased father is responsi ble, is being cared for at the home of of kind friends and neighbors. Barnes, who feigned insanity and refused to eat for several days, will probably be taken to Whatcom and confined m the county jail there until he can be arraigned for trial In the superior court here. A Wonderful Operation Which Start led the Medical World. HOPE FOR THE AFFLICTED. How They Hay Hare the Services of the Most Eminent Specialists and be Restored to Per* : feet Health. The year just passed has been remark able for the great advancement made in m epical science and the introduction of new and successful methods of treating what has heretofore been considered as incurable diseases. The daring and brilliant operation performed by Dr. Carl Schlatter, of Zurich,. Switzerland, by which the entire stomach of a patient was successfully removed, has astounded the medical profession. Heretofore the stomach has always been considered a vital organ, but the Zurich patient, alive and well, refutes this shop-worn theory. The case of this woman without a stom ach, demonstrates that the gastric func tions can be performed by other organs of the body. The history of this case is of absorbing interest. From childhood tie patient had suffered from frequent attacks of severe pain in i the stomach. The local doctors could afford her no relief. She finally came under the treatment of Dr. Schlatter. He diagnosed her case and found the seat of trouble to be a tumor. This he removed with the entire stomach, and the patient, though old and feeble, has fully recovered her health. The remarkable results obtained in this case prove the superiority of the specialist over the general practitioner in the treatment of chronic diseases. His study, investigation and practise are con fined to one particular organ of the body and its diseases. His constant work makes him master, and success attends his efforts. vv-'~jr- There has recently been formed in New York City the Warner Nazaro Medicine Company, which has a department for the special treatment of chronic diseases of all classes. Its Board of Physicians is composedof themost successful specialists in Greater New York. The object of the company is to give advice and treatment to people who could not otherwise obtain the services of such eminent specialists. Many diseases which hare baffled the •kill of the general practitioner can thus be successfully treated and suffering humanity benefited. :* "_ -' :" ' ■ ". -2 Among the diseases for which special treatment can be had are>crofula and all blood and akin diseases: nervous prostra tion, insomnia, chronic headaches, and all nervous disorders; rheumatism and gout: acute and chronic catarrh; diseases and weaknesses of women; special diseases of men; indigestion and stomach troubles. This plan of special treatment baa been devised and perfected by Mr. H. H. War ner, former proprietor and originator of Warner's Safe Cure. Mr. Warner i re tired from the Safe Cure business some five years ago, and since that time he has gievn bis attention to | formulating; and perfecting the present undertaking. His years of experience in the special treat ment of kidney diseases led him to be lieve that equally good results could be obtained by offering the public, at a rea sonable rate, special treatment under the direction iof eminent specialists for J the several classes of diseases to which man kind is liable. 1 This > plan places within the reach of all. at minimum prices, the experiences lof men who j have devoted years of study to their respective special ties : The method of obtaining relief from all chronic troubles is as simple as it i» in expensive. All that iis ; necessary is to write a history of your case, making the statement as complete as possible, and giving ? symptons - in t detail. % Send this, with five dollars, to the : Warner Nazaro Medicine Company, St.« Paul t Building, 820 Broadway' New York City, when a complete diagnosis ;of » your case and medicine for M thirty days' treatment, should so long a time be necessaryjtor J a cure, will be sent you and delivered free without m further » expense. The well known business ability of Mr. Warner, and the fact that he has done so much tor suffering humanity in the past, are ample assurances of the genuineness of this, his latest and greatest work.
