S. Ambasasdor Thompson of Mexico has sent to the state department the Mexican government's version of the Cananea City outbreak. The trouble was caused by revolutionists and was aimed at the Mexican government. The conspirators were working from St. Louis. Mo., headquarters. Bertha Claiche Sentenced. NEW YORK, June 5. —Bertha Clai che who confessed to slaying her for mer master, Emil Gerderon, was today sentenced to not less than two years and two months and not more than five years in the state's prison. The prisoner was pleased at the leni ency of the court. Gene Bert Sued for Divorce. SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., June 5.— Divorce proceedings were insstltuted this morning by Mrs. Mamie Bert against Eugene M. Bert, president of the Pacific Coast Baseball league. Mrs. Bert alleges that her husband treated her with extreme cruelty and neglect, and often subjected her to severe beat ings without cause. The couple werj mafriedy in IS9I. E. 1 Stafford Commence the Work TASK WILL OEII HMO ONE THIS YEAR CENSUS EXPECTED TO SHOW THAT POPULATION HAS RAP- Taking the school • census. The task of taking the school census in District No. 1 has been delegated this year to John Woods and R. E. Stafford, principals respectively of the Lincoln and Washington public schools, and has already been commenced. "The two principals will work after school hours and on Saturdays until the present school term is closed," Coun ty Superintendent Bond said this af ternoon. "After that they will devote all their time to the work until the census is taken. "The school census as it is being taken, includes all children of school age between 5 and 21 years and also all children under five years of age. In this way are we able to ascertain the number of all persons, both males and female, single or married under 21 years of age, residing in the city and also in District No. 1. The cen sus is being taken by wards as usual." The census being taken this year is expected to show that the population both in the city and suburbs has ma terially increased over last year. Bold Robber in Mining Camp. MANHATTAN, Nev., June s.—An unknown and unmasked bandit entered a saloon on Main street at 7 o'clock this morning and ordered all present to get out. He then robbed the till of over fifty dollars. He overlooked ten thousand dollars lying close by in an open safe. After pocketing the loot the desperado backed out of the rear door and escaped. Madge, of Olympia, deputy collector of internal revenue, who has been visiting here on leave with his wife for ten days, left for home yesterday. While here he purchased two irrigated tracts, one at Grandview, eight miles northwest of town, of fifteen acres, at $$0, and an other at $120, just across the river from this city. Mr. Madge will at once improve the latter place and says he will move his family to Prosser on account of the climate. He will set out ten acres of orchard. Commence New School Houae. KENNEWICK, June 5—J. C. Gor man, the North Yakima contractor and builder, who has the contract for the new school house, has arrived and let the contract for excavating the basement to Jack Schwindler, who be gan work Tuesday morning, says the Courier. The foundation for the new building will be of cement stone and the walls of Walla Walla brick. Some of the contractor's men are here. FEDERAL COURT IN SESSION Judge Whitson Presiding in New Rooms in Mottet Building PETIT MORS CALLED FOR TOMORROW SEVERAL IMPORTANT CASES ARE ON THE DOCKET FOR TRIAL THIS TERM. Federal court in sesion LEAD.. The United States circuit and dis trict courts for the eastern district of Washington was convened this morn ing in the new court room in the Mot tett building on Alder street. Owing to the fact that the attorneys were not quite ready to make up cases on the docket very little business was trans acted today. The petit jurors will be called and sworn tomorrow morning. Court was convened at 11 o'clock with Judge Edward White presiding. The other officers of the court present were: E. E. Cushman, special United States attorney; J. B. Lindsley, assist ant district attorney; Frank C. Nash, clerk of the circuit court; Harry B. Strong, deputy clerk of the circuit court; R. D. McCulley, deputy United States marshal. The first case called up was that of the Oregon Railroad & Navigation company versus Marcus Zugar et al., an action to condemn property for a right of way. By consent of the at torneys the argument of a motion was deferred. The argument of demurrer in the case of Dora Hunt versus The North ern Pacific Railway company, by con sent of the attorneys, was postponed until next week.
