By a law o( the last legislature.
Lyndeii-Uellingham auto stages are
[brought under the direction of the
istnte Department of Public Works,
land will be governed as strictly as
a railroad, or any othor public service
Among the rules and regulations
j proposed for the government of the
i Lynden-Bellingham auto stages,
'along with other lines, are the fol
A copy of tariffs for passenger ser
vice must be posted in a conspicuous
place in each stage, and at each place
for loading or unloading passengers
along the lino or route.
No change in rates may be made
without giving notice 30 days before.
All changes must be approved by the
Department of Public Works.
No changes of any kind in time
schedules may bo made without thir
ty days notice, and without being ap
proved by the Department of Public
All stages must have a speedom
eter, extra tire, chains, fire exting
uisher, and a two-candle power light
within the vehicle.
Drivers are not permitted to drink
intoxicating liquors, or smoke when
No stage will be allowed to carry
more passengors than the rated car
rying capacity as filed with the de
partment. Drivers and operators will
not bo permitted to allow passengers
to ride o nthe running boards, fen
dors or any other part of the vehicle
than tho seats thereof.
No driver or operator of a motor
stage shall permit or allow on the
front seat of such stage more pas
sengers than the seat is designed to
[carry, exclusive of the driver; or per
mit or allow any passenger to occupy
[any other portion of said vehicle for
ward of the back of the driver's soat.
No passenger shall bo allowed to
sit on the front seat to tho left of the

The amount of freight that may be
carried in the stage with passengers
shall not be greater than can bo con
veniently carried without causing
discomfort to the passengers.
Those rulings will be passed on this

The Siamese Twins.

given to two youths —Bag and Chung
—horn of a Chinese father ami a Si
amese mother in Siam in 1811. Their
bodies were united by a band of llesb,
stretching from the end of one breast
bone to the same place In the oppo
site twin. They were brought to

after several tours settled in North
Carolina. They married sisters in
1842, In 1809 the twins again ex
hibited themselves In Europe. They
died in North Carolina In 1874. One
twin survived the other two and one
