Waters made a business trip to Spokane the first of the week. J. B. Nessly made a business trip to Thornton and Tekoa this week. Mrs. Dr. Gandy of Spokane visited her sister, Mrs. Dr. Benton, last week. H. H. Wheeler, formerly auditor of Whitman county, was in Pullman Tuesday. The home of E. E. Morris, about five miles from this city was totally destroyed by fire last Friday night. A large range was the only thing saved. Mrs. G. Fred Johnson of Colfax is visiting Mrs. Karl Allen. Mrs. John son, nee Minerva Taylor, is a former W. S. C. student and will take in the big football game today. Arthur Qulixon, a former Pullman printer, is down from his ranch near Tekoa. A brother of Mr. Gulixon is at the Pullman hospital where he will be operated upon for appendicitis by Dr. Campbell. A bouncing 10-pound boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hungate Sun da,'. evening, This is th.' first baby to make' its appearance in the house hold and Frank is wearing the smile that won'! come off. W. V. Windus was here from his homestead on the Flathead reserva tion this week. Mr. Windus will oversee the picking and packing of the product of his apple orchard near the college while here. He estimates that he will have 1,000 boxes of choice apples, - The theme of the sermon at the Christian church next Sunday morn ing will be "The Holy Spirit." In the evening the congregation will Join in the Union service at the M. E. church. Sunday school and Christian Endeavor services will be held at. the usual hours. HOLREN A PERJURER Swore Falsely to Assist Pullman Man to Get Marriage License. Archie' Hidden was Monday night found guilty of perjury by a jury in ,>• superior court. Holden swore falsely to aid Joe Cannon, a former so-called printer of this city, to ob tain a license to marry Margaret Bannister, a 16-year-old Greer girl, who was employed a) the Farmers Hotel in Pullman. Three days after she had met Cannon she went to Col fax with him and was married. 1 lol den signed the certificate as a wit ness Before she had lived with her hus band for a week the girl's mother came andtook the daughter back to Idaho. A deputy sheriff was sent af ter the girl, ho was accused of theft, but this suit was dropped. Suit was started against Holden for perjury. Adjournment was taken at ■1 o'clock for the judge to prepare his Instruction for the jury. Cannon is now serving In he navy. Death of Allien Maiden Alden Marden, aged 24 years, died Saturday after a lingering Illness. Deceased was a graduate of the Ag ricultural college of Brookings, South Dakota, and had lived in Pullman about three years. His only near rel ative is a brother, his father hav ing died in March, 1908, and his mother in January, 1910. The fun eral was held last Sunday, Rev. Dr. Hays preaching the sermon. Ladies' Guild Electa Officers The Ladies Guild of the St. James Episcopal church met with Mrs. Daw son on Thursday afternoon, for elec tion of officers and other business. The following officers were elected: President —Mrs. Lee Allen. Vice-Pres.—Mrs. Dawson. Secretary—Mrs. Ageton. Treasurer —Mrs. F. Sanger. Meetings will be held regularly, the place of meeting being announc ed from time to time. At the M. K. Church. The first quarterly conference of the year will be held at the M. E. church Saturday evening at 7:30. Sunday morning the pulpit will be occupied by the Rev. Dr. Gibson, for the past three years pastor of the M. E. church at North Yakima. Dr. Gibson is the new superintendent of the Spokane district. Sunday even ing Prof. Knapp, Sunday school spe cialist of Chicago, will deliver an ad dress. THE GREAT MAJESTIC Prof. Wulff of Berlin Will Demon strate Possibilities of Popular Range at A. It. linker's Store Beginning next Tuesday at 2 p. m. the possibilities of the Majestic range from a culinary standpoint will be demonstrated at the A. B. Baker implement store by Prof. ■Wulff, of Berlin, for seven years chief baker on the Pacific Coast and other large steamship lines. The demonstration will continue each day until October 29, and every man, woman or child in Pullman or vicin ity who is Interested in the culinary art is cordially invited by Mr. Baker to be present and acquaint themsel ves with the possibilities of the fa mous range. Each clay a new set of receipts will be used by the demon strator and these will be distributed free of charge to all who desire them. Mr. Baker's large display window will be dressed for the occasion and something novel in the way of win dow trimming is promised by the promoters. Mr. Baker has the fol lowing to say in regard to good cook ing and the virtues of the Great Ma jestic: "A man's stomach is the principal seat of government. Whitham & Wagner Palouse Country Improvement Co, Professor Kreager spent four days during last year in Chehalis, in at tendance at the Lewis county Teach er's Institute, before which he de livered several addresses. Addition to Pullman. Beginning October 17 we are offer ing for sale through the real estate men of Pullman one hundred acres of land adjoining the town on the west, bordering on the macadam road and two sides of Mr. Holt's orchard and connecting with Center street in Gar den City addition. We purchased this choice land as particularly adapted for orchards and by reason of location very desirable for residence tracts. We have sub divided it into five-acre lots or there abouts with roads and and alley for good outlet from every lot to town and the highway. Every lot is mark ed with corner posts so its location can be seen plainly. A blue print of the tract has been furnished each agent, who will quote prices, name terms, show property and complete sale. There are but twenty lots, differing in price by reason of loca tion and topography, but while all very desirable, there are choices.
