I EWARTSVILLE J .1. E. Peterson went to Spokane Thursday to bring Mrs. Peterson heme. Her many friends will be glad to know her health has greatly • improved. Mrs. A. J. Carrothers returned Thursday from Salem, Ore. Mrs. C. O. Kellogg and Miss Patsy Klemgard visited at the Carrothers home Friday. A fire ou the bluffs near the | tramway Friday created some ex citement but no damage. Miss Belle Higgin.s and Lee Rueker visited Troy llolliday at St. Ignatius hospital Saturday. There was au automobile accident on the Almota grade Monday "Alex Sims" has a few ribs broken, but no one hurt seriously. Mr. ami Mrs. George Stephenson, Miss Doris, Master Vernon, and Miss Belle Higgins spent Sunday after nocn at the home of .sirs. M. E. Rueker. Mr. and Mrs. Chase, son and daughter, and Mrs. Clyde Smith spent Friday with Mr. aud Mrs. Bert Hately. Mr. and Mrs. K. U. Lyle and .Miss Mildred Klemgard visited Troy llol liday at Colfax Sunday. They re port him slowly recovering from a very serious operation. Mrs. Will Hogan and children, Mrs. C. O. Kellogg and son, Joe, and little Harold Bryant visited at the Klemgard home Sunday. Mrs. Bert Hately and sou, Mabry, visited Sunday at the Roy Haxton home. Miss Vera Kellogg is visiting a few days this week at the J. M. Klemgard home. Miss Patsy Klpmgard, who has been at the Kellogg home, returned home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. D. 1). Kimball of Pullman spent Sunday at the I M. Klemgard home. Miss Belle Higgins is -issisliiis her aunt, Mrs. M. L. Davis, with her housework a few days this week. Little Clinton Snyder had the mis fortune to get his hand jetwee i the cogs of a feed cutter Sundiy and had the fingers of one hand very badly lacerated. Miss Lola Bryant on Thursday la.st entertained 11 of her girl friends in honor of her cousin, Miss Vera Kel logg, who Is visiting her. Those present were the Misses Helen Ho run. Vera Kellogg, Lola Hodges, Vivian Mathews, Vera Farley Blanche Gray, Lois Bryan;, Eva I'i'iues. Bernice Haines, Mildred Klemgard, Patsy Klemgard and Lola Bryant. All report having spent an enjoyable ofternoon. Several combine harvester; com menced operations this ween. Nat Bryant started work with a "Little Idaho" on Monday of this week. Mrs. M. E. Rueker and Mrs. J. M. Klemgard were Colfax visitors lart Wednesday. Mrs. William Getchel of Lake Che lan is visiting her daughter, Mrs. C D. Martin, this week. Mrs. Isaac Harrison of Po'. atch is vifiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. H. T. Smith, this week. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Martin visi »d at the Scott Getchel home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. T. Banks in the following cities 'expressed the opinion that no gov ernment deposits will be needed In their localities during the crop-mov ing season: Portland, Ore.; San Francisco and Los Angeles, ('al.; Tacoma, Wash., and Salt Lake City, Utah. If it should develop later that they or any of them require de posits their applications will be given consideration. National hanks iv Seattle aud Spo kane. Wash., indicated their desire for crop-moving deposits, and gov ernment funds will be deposited with them. Interest at the rate of two per cent per annum will be charged. ami the government will accept as secur ity government bonds at par, state, municipal, railroad and other bonds, acceptable to the secretary, at 75 per pent of their par value; ap proved commercial paper, acceptable to the secretary, at 75 per cent of its face value. The secretary will not require, as he did last year, that 10 per cent of the deposits shall be se cured by government bonds. All collateral offered as security must be approved by a local com mittee appointed by the clearing house In each city aud by a repre sentative of the government chosen by the secretary. In sub-treasury cities the assistant treasurer of the United States, in addition to the gov ernment's special representative, will he a member of the local com mittee. Dr. D. K. Campbell, who for sev eral weeks has been suffering with a severe attack of blood poisoning, went to Spokane Wednesday after noon to receive medical treatment from specialists in that disease. He is accompanied by Mrs. Jones, who is visiting at the home of J. H. Weeks. Mrs. Loren Dumas, nee Florence Windus. is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Windus, on Sunnvside hill. P. W. Cox of Hay, one of the pio neers of Whitman county, was In Pullman yesterday on business. He says that his fall grain averaged 4 2 bushels per acre" and that hla spring grain will make a good crop.
