held at the Coeur d'Alene alleys last
niKht to determine the favorite five
for the Week. Kd Dvorak made it
wonderful showing In his last game,
running his score up to 267. With

At Anaconda last night Louie Long
sent Aurello Herrera, the Mexican,

Barney Mullln has received a com
munication from the Walla Walla
fight managers that they wish him
to go on in a fight with Jack Reilly
for a 10-round limit. Barney will
stick for 20 rounds because against
such a heavy man as Reilly he will
have to do some tall hustling to
handle him nnd may not be able to
do it inside of 10 rounds.
John Boland, a middle aged man
who some years ago used to do con
siderable fighting in this city and
this portion of the country, has been
pinched and sent to the Maryland
penitentiary for two years. He was
charged with assault and attempt to
rob.
BASKET BALL TONIGHT.
Turner hall tonight will he the
scene of a double basketball game be
tween the two W. A. C. teams and the
high school girls' team and the y.
M. C. A. boys' team. These games
will undoubtedly draw a large crowd,
as there is much rivalry between the
players and it is the first opportunity
to see the high school girls In a
match of any consequence.

Whether the play, The "Queen of
Laughter,' which will be produced by
Bogtonians tonight will be a success
depends largely on the judgment of the
audience which will witness the play
this evening, it is not often that
Spokane has an opportunity of criti
cizing a first night performance of a
company with such a reputation as the
iWtouians possess. The reception
given to this initial performance by
the critics will be telegraphed over
the country.
Many prominent people, whose judg
ment in theatrical matters is well
known, will be in attendance tonight.
Those who have arrived to witness the
performance arc: Ysabel DeWitte
Kaplan the author of the play, and
William Brady the composer of the
music. Alberta Gallatin, who will take
the leading role in Ibsen's "Ghost,"
will occupy a box. Mrs. John Court
of this city nnd Mrs. {Catherine Gall
of San Francisco will occupy a box
with Manager D"n L. Weaver. Mrs.
T. K. Jefferson will give a box-party.
The piece was rehearsed yesterday
afternoon, nnd the entire day today
has been occupied with the final dress
rehearsal. 'The piece has some beauti
ful musical numbers, and the cast has
been carefully selected. The house
has had a good sale and everything
promises well for the success of "The
Queen of Laughter."
DANCE OF SHRINES
The Shriners* dance to be piven at
the Hotel Spokane tbe evening of Feb
ruary '£1, promises to be one of the
largest social functions ever held in
Spokane, The dance, while given in
the name of the Shriners, is backed
by all the Masonic orders in the city
nnd is for the benefit of tho Temple
fund. Already several hundred tickets
have heen sold nt *2 each, and it is ex
pected the number will reach 1000.
As yet it has not been definitely
settled how much of the hotel will be
used for the dunce, but arrangements
have been made for two orchestras,
the Hungarian and some local organiza
tion.
Tickets are being sold by all MA SODS
and each ticket js signed by the seller,
which is a guarantee of the character
of the purchaser. The dance is not
limited to Masons. From prespnt in

awarded the contract for license
plates to the Spokane Stamp Works.
Five thousand is the number required

Odd Fellows' dance "t Elks' hall last
night. A hundred couples were in line
for the grand march, which,was led

RETAIL LUMBERMEN
MEET AGAIN.
W. O. Mollis, of Minneapolis,
Minn., secretary of the Northwest
Lumbermen's association, who address
ed the recent convention of the Retail
Lumbermen, met local lumbermen last
night in the Spokane Lumber associa
tion rooms. 24-25 Golden Gate block.
The meeting was informal and of a
confidential nature. Hollis is making
local lumbermen acquainted with all
the ins and outs of the eastern asso
ciation and their methods.
Mr. Hollis is spending today in
Coeur d'Alene, looking over the lumber
interests there. He leaves tonight for
the coast.
