Mr. and Mrs. Clark Nelson have returned from Walla Walla, where they had been visiting with friends for several days. Jack Harrison, until recently in the O. R. & N. office here, will leave to morrow for Portland, where he will accept a position. This would seem to in dicate that there is no such a thing as financial troubles in the conduct of Uncle Sam's business in so far as they pertain to the disposal of the public domain. In a way this cash disappears for the time being from the channels of trade, but it is an in dication Juft the same that not all the cash in the west has been loaned to New York banks, says the La Grande Star. As far as the work at the land of fice Is concerned there Is no appar ent let-up In the volume of business. . Much of the routine ' work Is months behind. Proofs that were submitted weeks and even months ago cannot be passed to final action on account of the pressure of busi ness, and all must take their turn In their regular order.
