J
Ia Grande Land Office Receives
Plenty of Sloney.
The cash receipts at the United
States land office last week, exceeded
(812,000. This would seem to in
dicate that there is no such a thing
as financial troubles in the conduct
of Uncle Sam's business in so far as
they pertain to the disposal of the
public domain. In a way this cash
disappears for the time being from
the channels of trade, but it is an in
dication Juft the same that not all
the cash in the west has been loaned
to New York banks, says the La
Grande Star.
As far as the work at the land of
fice Is concerned there Is no appar
ent let-up In the volume of business.
. Much of the routine ' work Is
months behind. Proofs that were
submitted weeks and even months
ago cannot be passed to final action
on account of the pressure of busi
ness, and all must take their turn
In their regular order.
Whllo the number of available land
entries Is diminishing there will be a
good deal of business yet to be dis
posed of In the way of contests, of
which a lnrge number have been filed
In the past few days. There will be
a time when entries and contests
alike, will diminish In volume, but
that time is not yet any where near
within sight
