Cine of the moat i;: bitti of act ing ever seen In photoplay done hv William Farnum, who plays two sep arate parts In "The Kondman," a William Fox production of Hall Calne's celebrated novel. Mr. Far num, who, while on the legitimate stage, appeared for rive solid years in "Ben Hur," plays the part of Stephen Orry and Jason Orry, rathe, and son. The types are radically dissimilar Stephen Orry is a huge, heavy-limbed giant; a vagabond, indifferent to the needs of those dependent upon him. Jason, the son, who vows to kill his illBsolute father, u) a vigorous, clean cut type. In the development of the action there Is a lapse of several years and Stephen becomes an old man. Th" transition from the Stephen of mid dle life to the aged Stephen allows Mr Farnum to display ro the utmost hi exceptional dramatic talent In one of the scenes Jason rescues Stephen during a shipwreck and swims to shore with him. In view of the fact that Mr. Farnum plays both parts, the scene constitutes one of the most re markable photographic achievements since the advent of the photoplay. Thi famous star has been seen in many ureal stories with big dramatic I climaxes pregnant with compellent i power but never one to equal the role I of Ited Jason In this mighty photo, play triumph with one of the greatest ! climaxes ever conceived Critics are I united In declaring it the greatest I picture to date. This production was originally intended to be shown at ad i vanced admission prices throughout the United States but by special ar langement with the Fox Company, it will be shown at the Pastime at the ' regular admission. The spectacle of Mary Beresford. the heroine of "The Stepping Stone,' the new Triangre-Ince release starring Frank Keenan and Mary Boland, aid ing her unappreoiatlve husband in his upward climb to success, is going to strike a responsive note in the hearts of many women, and perhaps awaken ! consciences of some careless men. Ever since their marriage, Albert I lieresford had depended on his wife Mary, and always had he found her ready, willing, able. In the beginning, j when it had been a hard struggle to i make ends meet, she uncomplaining j ly had done the scrubbing and wash 1 !ng. and then had sat up half the night aiding him in his law studies, nursing, babying and encouragins him to good work in spite of himself And. like most husbands who take all and give nothing, he is ready to cast her off when his beggarly goal has been reached. The latest Bluebird photoplay, en titled "Naked Hearts," is based upon Tennyson's half-narrative poem, "Maud." in which some of the most charming lyrics which the master of lyrics ever wrote occur The story is never fully told in the poem, and per haps its very mystery inspired Rupert Julian tn make a photoplay of it Wherever he got the inspiration, it was certainly a good one. The poem, for picture purposes, has been placed in the old south before the war. while some of its earlier bat tles were being fought The charac ters, with one exception, have been turned into Americans, but the heart est and impelling force of the beauti ful love story knows no nationality or period. "Naked Hearts" is simply a gripping story', told in lucid detail by clever actors in support of Hupert Ju lian, the star, and Francella Btllington. who lends the inspiration in the char acted of Maud.
