M. Fields and Mrs. Clarence Fields left Wednes day for Norfolk to spend a few days visiting relatives. Mrs. C. M. Edwards and daugh ter, Miss Hazel, returned Friday from Hot Springs, where they spent a delightful three weeks visit. Abundant rains have fallen throughout this section of the county this week, and the farmers are jubilant over the crop pros pects. H. V. Williams, a successful young teacher, of Black River township, was here the first of the week and called to subscribe for The Journal. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Elkins re turned to their home at Little Rock Sunday evening, after a pleasant visit here with Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Evans. J. A. Page, of Dota, president of the County Sunday School As sociation, spent Sunday in town attending the township Sunday School Convention. Mrs. J. C. Wynne left Saturday night for Conway where she will spend a few days with her hus band, Prof. J. C. Wynne, who is attending the State Normal. Judge J. D. Doyle of Lawrence County spent a few days here this week on business. He was attor ney for Milligan and others in the cases tried before Squire Saylors. The Republicans of the county will hold a mass meeting at Bates ville tomorrow (Saturday) for the purpose of selecting delegates to the state convention at Little Rock July I. The township Sunday school convention held in Newark last Sunday was well attended, and some excellent addresses were de livered. The address by County President J. A. Page was both in teresting and instructive, and was very much enjoyed by all. P. T. Reed of Sulphur Rock and Miss Minnie Stinnett of Reed, Sharp county, were married Thursday evening at 7 o’clock at the Methodist parsonage, Rev. B. L. Wilford of that church officiat ing.
