Mrs. Sophia Lawrence, aged 79 years and one of the pioneer ladies of Batesville, died at the eld home in that city Wednesday at noon from a short illness. The deceased was the mother of Dr. !W. B. Lawrence of that city and is well known by many of our people. Matthews and sister, Miss Mattie Matthews, who have resided in Newport for several months past, left this morning for Russellville, where they will visit relatives for sev eral weeks, after which Miss Mat thews will return to her old home, in South Carolina.
