BE CAREFUL. To cope successfully with the cop per-headed monsters, commonly ly called trusts, it w.ll take brains, good judgment and time. It will take deep thinking, honest and fear less law-makers. Trusts must be fought in such a manner so as the common people will not be compelled to suffer from the effects of the fights made against the combines. *, In selecting our law-makers we should select men of good sound business qualifications, men who will work for the interests of their constituents, who can deal justly with all, who will offer every induce ment to capital and enterprise and who will enact good sensible and forcible laws against all combina tions. Many people labor under the mis taken idea that every business con trolling an immense capital is a trust. Such is not the case, we want capital and enterprise and we want law-makers who will offer them every inducement and protec tion to enter our State. Without capital the resources of our State can never be developed. In selecting members of our next Legislature, the citizens of Arkan sas should select the very best material from their respective coun ties. Much damage and much good can be doue the busiuess interests of a State by a Legislature. The Supreme Court of Indiana, in speaking of trusts, said: “Whatever is injurious to public interests should be condemned by all good citizeus. Whatever destroys competition is injurious to public interests. “With incorruptable courts, we shall easily find ways of controlling all trusts." We want in Arkansas capital for the development of our State. Fac tories of every description, rail roads, street car systems aud inves tors in every line. We waut law makers who will protect their capitalists and at the same time protect our people from competition destroyers. LARGE CHANCES IN SMALL TOWNS. Merchants in small towns are constantly complaining of a lack of opportunity, vet it is in just such localities that the greatest oppor tunities in the world to make “hits” are found. Take a towu of five thousand in habitants, where a little daily news paper regularly serves the popula tion with the latest local news, and theu suppose some enterprising dry-goods dealer there should sud denly commence to advertise in metropolitan style, using metro politan space and metropolitan ad vertisements. Why, it would cre ate a mild sensation among the Constipation Headache, bil iousness, haartbum, I ndi gestion, and all liver ills are cured by Hood's Pills Sold by all druggists. 25 cents. deuizens of the place. His store would be visited by hundreds who had npver before patronized him, and if he persevered he would have a monopoly on the dry goods trade of that vicinity. The trouble is, however, that if this were suggested to one of this class of business men he would shaKe his head and say, “But, it would cost too much.”—Profitable Advertising. NOTICE. She has just finish ed n second course of lessons in l.it tle Rock, which gave general satis faction, and the ladies of Pine Bluff are certainly fortunate in having tiiis opportunity. Mrs. Jennie Beauchamp. Vice-President, 222 Little Rock, Ark. ODDS AND ENDS. In France, if a person dies leaving sufficient money to pay his debts, the doctor’s bill is settled first, and then the rest of the deceased’s liabilities are dealt with. There is a monastery at St. Honorat, on an island near Cannes, France, which has existed since the fourth cen tury. During the fourteen centuries since it was built no woman has ever been allowed to enter its walls. London is admittedly one of the healthiest places in the world, and its inhabitants generally manage to live to a good age. Mr. Charles Abbott, who was also known as "the Abbott o£ Charterhouse,” died last month, after completing his 101st year. He was the last survivor of a family of twenty two brothers and sisters, one of whom died only a few months before com pleting his century. Mr. Abbott carried his age well, was not a teeto taler, but drew the line at tobacco. F M, SMITH \ shepherd’** Lightning ICE ,! CREAH FREEZERS They are the best made.
