Well, the clerk of the weather has sent us an April Fool in the person of another perfect morning, so there is nothing tangible or reason able for us to kick about, and yet we are not happy. Ward, who owns the Miles Scott farm southwest of town, was hard hit by the wind storm, last Tuesday, some of his buildings be ing badly damaged and a number of fine apple trees uprooted. Doug Walker has resigned as salesman for Goff Bros. & Gamble Co., and will accept a similar po sition with the Cove Lumber Com pany. T. A. Woodell h^s resigned as assistant manager of the latter company, and will lake a much needed rest, having been working for Hie company for four years, part of the lime as manage- of the store. Tues day, the body of Floyd Ward, who was drowned in Mountain Fork Iasi Saturday, had not been- found, al though a diligent search has been made by determined men ever since the sad occurrence. Another party drove out to the river this (Tues day morning and the search will be continued until the body is found. It is thought the body drifted into the nearest deep pool and may be caught on the rocks or sunken drift-wood. Fisherman. HATFIELD. Regular city election Tuesday. The commodious law office ot Frost and Frost is nearing comple tion, and it won’t be long until they are ready for business. The Baptist Ladies' Aid will serve dinner and ice cream Saturday, April 5. Tho proceeds will go for seats in the new church. The house of Mrs. \\ ade, four miles west of town, was burned to the ground Friday night while she was away nursing the sick. .Nothing was saved. We forgot to take our thermome ter in last Wednesday night and it went down to 20 above, which made it considerably dangerous for peach blossoms. High water on Six-Mile creek made a Robinson Crusoe of the mail carrier, and he failed to get in in time for the Hat Held items to ap pear in hist week's issue. There will be several cottages built here this summer to accom modate people who come here tor their1 health and others who do not wish to buy until they live here tiwhile. Such houses have been badly needed here for the past two years. School clbsed Tuesday for all grades except High school. This marks a memorable school year. With the completion of the large, substantial brick school building, all branches of study conducted along up-to-date lines, the higher courses installed, etc., all tend to mark it as the greatest school year in the his tory of this place. Pears, plums and apples are safe so far. J. M. Strawn, superintendent of the Rocky Sunday school, reports that the services at the church Sun day were very interesting. A num ber of little folks bad some nice recitations. The review lesson for the past quarter was studied with care and many helpful thoughts were brought out by the superin tendent and others. The Rev. Mr. Bailey preached in the afternoon, in the edification of all present. Mr. strawn should have the co-opera tion of everyone who believes in Ibis great work of I he Sunday school.
