Dates, another former liatlh ld citizen and progressive bus iness man. It will be remembered that Mr. Oates conducted one of the most successful mercantile sah's ever held in our town before his departure for Tuscola in March, and we judge that this sale con vinced him that advertising pays, for he is now advertising liberally in the Tuscola Tribune. Mr. Oates had the reputation of being one of tin- best business men in western Arkansas. Fred Whitely and Frank Harkey, who are attending High School at Mena, are spending this week with homefolks. YVayman Crane of Hatfield, who is teaching school at Bowman Spur, is superintendent of the Sunday school at Hatton, which is doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnett Lichlyter of Vandervoort attended the play at Hatton Saturday night, as did also Mr. and Mrs. Daw* Lichlyter and on. Clarence. A Mr. Johnson, representing the state’s interest in the mining of manganese, has made some investi gations here concerning this mineral and says that the deposits near Hat ton are not the best, but there is a considerable amount, of the ore. There are several small mines near town, not only of manganese, but also prospects of some gold and sil ver. A recent discovery of glass sand has also been made.
