New Railroad for Malvern
Boo* Island to BOild a New
Line From Little Rock to
Alexandria, La., and to
Vicksbum, Miss., vu Mal
vern to Connect With the
Choctaw'at This Point.
Ever since the Choctaw built
ft's Benton-Butterfield line there
has been a persistent rumor
afloat that they would, in the
course of time, extend their line
from Malvern to trfe southeast.
When the Rock Island System
purchased the Choctaw the ru
mor took on new life and’ our
people have felt confident that
we were have an extension of the
old Diamond Joe, Things came
a head in Little Rock Friday
When articles of incorporation
were filed with the secretary of
State after which the state rail
way board held a special session
granting all privileges asked for
the new corporation. The des
cription of the Little Rock and
Southern contained in the arti
cles of incorporation and publish
ed in' Saturday’s Gazette is as
follows:
Making the connection be
tween Benton and the Tron Mt.
crossing near Traskwood, run
ning thence directly South tc
Princeton. ’
From Princeton a direct south
easterly course is taken crossing
the Cotton Belt at Harlow or at
Thornton, where a short branch
line runs to the southeast, thence
in a slightly southeasterly course
to Hampton the county seat of
Calhoun County which at present
has no railroad connection. At
Hampton the road will branch in
to two lines, one going directly
south to Alexandri, La., and the
other southeast to Vicksburg.
On the latter the first town of im
portance will be Crossett, Brad
ley County, to the southeast of
Hampton. From Crossett the
line will be run in a continued
southeasterly direction across the
state line into Louisiana, and
thence to the west side of the
river opposite Vicksburg.
The Alexandria branch will run
directly south from Hampton
through part of Calhoun and all
of Union County, to the state line
thence southeast to Farmersville,
La. passing through Union, Lin
coln, Ouachita, Jackson, Grant
parishes in Louisiana.
The Malvern branch will leave
that town in a southeasterly di
rection crossing the Wisconsin-
Arkansas road and passing
through parts of Hot Spring,
Grant and Dalias Counties, con
necting with the Main line prob
ably before reaching Princeton,
though the articles do not spe
cifically state.
The branch from Malvern to
the main line will be 20 miles
long, a connection again being
made at that city with the Choc
taw.

THE TIMES-JOURNAL.
Thus including the 23 miles i
from Benton to Little Rock, the |
proposed nqw road will have a
total mileage of at leas 400 miles,
passing through nine counties in
Arkansas, with a total mileage of
203 miles in Arkansas.
The coming of this road means
a new era of prosperity for Mal
vern and Hot Spring County.
T. E. Busby, attorney for the
Rook Island system, was in Mal
vern last week and secured the
signatures of T. R. McHenry
and D . S. McCray on the ar
tices of incorporation as share
holders in the new line. From
the Little Rock papers one would
think that Malvern was only to
have a branch line, while the
truth of the business, Malvern is
to be a very important town on
the main line from Kansas City
to Alexandria and Vicksburg, and
Little Rock will get the branch.
Xmas ’ll soon be here.
Some men give the first part of
their life working to accumulate
wealth and then spend their last
years in worry because they can
not take it with them.
’ Many people who make finan
cial failures in life have an idea
that it is because they are not
quite as dishonest as the fellows
who forge ahead.
Lieut. Peary says he could
discover the north pole if he had
$200,000. If we had this amount
we wouldn’t care whether the
north pole was ever found.
At home is the place for all
home people to spend their
money. The man who lives at
one place and goes to another to
make his purchases because he
can probably buy at a discount
of one cent on the dollar, is not
the kind of a man to build up a
town.
Even machinery needs an oc
casional rest. The machinery of
the human organism would soon
break down if it were not for rest
and recreation. The man who
sacrifices the Sabbath to his
greed for gain will find his time
shortened in after life. Take a
day off from business and the
sharp contests of life and go to
church.
A PERTINENT INQUIRY.
Do you Know that for a little more
than it costs to take your family to the
theatre once, you can have a Grapho
phone, which is equal to a dozen thea
trical performances Tolled into one, for
with it you can reproduce all the songs,
speeches and musical selections that
you wish to hear? You get a combina

and no end of novel and delightful en
tertainments. Nothing is truer than
the assertion that the Graphophone en

who are not familiar with this wonder
ful instrument have much to learn that
will add to their pleasure.

northbound passenger train, No.
4, enroute from Texarkana to St.
Louis, was wrecked near here to
day. Engineer Asbury B. Ar
chibald was killed. Fireman
George Hayes saved his life by
jumping. The recent heavy
rains caused the rails to spread
and the engine rolled down a six
foot embankment and was turned
completely over. Engineer Ar
chibald was pinioned under the
wreckage and met death instant
ly. The mail and baggage cars
also left the track and turned
over, and a mail clerk was slight
ly injured. The smoker follow
ing the mail car, was thrown di
rectly across the track. None of
tho passengers were injured.

Thanksgiving was generally
observed in Malvern. Some at
tended divine servioeg while more
were satisfied to merely partake
in the proverbial turkey around
his own board —possibly not once
looking upward to thank the Giv
er of all good for his rich and
abundant feast. Did we feed the
hungry, clothe the naked, or give
a cup of cold water to the thirsty
from our store® of plenty? If not,-
we ignored the true significance
of Thanksgiving.

Because wa overeat of them. Indi

escape such consequences. A dose of a
good digestant like Kodol will relive you
at once. Your stomach is simply too

Dr. Miles* Nervine is a specific for nervous

a speedy and permanent cure.
“I feel it is my duty to let you know that
your medicines have cured my little girl of
nine, of spasms. She commenced having them
at the age of three. Our family doctor said
she would outgrow them but she did not.
We took her to another physician who said
her trouble was epileptic fits in a mild form.
He did her no good either. She was so
nervous she could hardly walk. As I had
already used Dr. Miles' Nervine and found
it a good remedy for myself I commenced
giving it to mv child. I gave her in all ten
bottles of the Nervine and one of the Blood
Purifier. That was over two years ago and
she has not had an' attack since we com
menced the treatment. She is no longer
troubled with nervousness and we consider
her permanently cured; I enclose her pic
ture. My mother-in-law lost her reason and
w is insane for three months from the effects
of LaGrippe. S.x bottles of Dr. Miles’ Ner
vine cured her. My sister has also taken it
for sick headache with good results. We all
thank you very much tor your good medi

is any other medicine half so good. I send
