Will Spend Three Days Looking Over the Road and Picking Spots Where Most of the Work is Necesary. County Judge Thurston P. Farm er, accompanied by Frank Kdsworth, I former city engineer, have gone to ; Mi. Ida along the route of the new proposed highway, and will spend three days taking observations pre paratory to laying out the work to be done on July 24-25 when the forces are put to work. Tlte government dynamiting crew will lie picked up at Mt. Ida and will also make a trip over the road wild Judge Farmer. The Garland county judge Is the recognized head of the movement and under his supervision will the work tie done on July 24-25 which is to connect Hot Springs ana Mt. Ida with one of the best roads in the western part of the state. The most of the work necessary to the highway is to he done in Mont gomery county, and a'ong a space of probably twelve miles of the forty miles between these citleB. That part of the road in Garland count needs but a little work to make its condition satisfactory. SOLDIERS MAKE TEST. Provisional Regiment Will Subsist Ten Days on Wagon Supplies. The other bat talion, also destined for Fort D. A. Russell, will leave Friday morning. The Eleventh infantry is under or ders to leave camp Saturday after noon over the Missouri, Kansas ana Texas for Fort D. A. Russell. To test wheel transportation prob lems a provisional regiment of in fantry at war strength to be com manded by Colonel John T. Van Ors. dale of the Seventeenth infantry, will leave early tomorrow morning for th,, l.eou Springs military reservation. The regiment "ill consist oi one bat talion, drawn from the Twenty-Mighth infantry, and two bat (allions taken from the Seventeenth. I It is interesting to note that there are but four deaf and dumb children of school age in the district, and but one of the school age that is an idiot. The females are in the majority among the negroes. The compete report Is as follows: White males ...2,668 White females .2,17b Total whites .4,841 Negro males .l,r<4 Negro females .1,470 Total negroes .2,64y This totaled makes the number «i children in the school district at this time, 7,490. INDEPENDENTS RE-ORGANIZE Texas Oil Company Increases Capital to $50,000,000. Houston, Texas, .Inly 13.—A report from Columbus, Ohio, as to the Te». as Company increase of capital stock indicating a re-organization of the Standard Oil Company, was received here with considerable surprise. The Texas Company is an inde pendent corporation, operating under the laws of Texas, with headquarters at Houston. About a year ago the capital stock was Increased from $13,000,000 to $18,000,000, and threj months ago the capital stock was antholrfzed increased from $18j000, 000 to $50,000,000, although not yet effective. Copies of the various char, ters of the corporation were filed »ith the Texas state department. The capital increase is expla'ned by the company’s intention to iargel.v extend its operations, as provided by charter amendment.
