MARKET NEWS NEW YORK COTTON J £ New York, Sept. 27 The cotton market was nervous and irregular to. day with heavy southern offerings ab. sorbed at prices slightly above the low records of yesterday, ,by ratlier better trade demand and realizing by shorts. The close was very steady but at a net decline of 1 at 6 poinjts. The market opened steady at a decline of one point on April, but generally one to five points highei on better calves than looked for and a continuance of yesterday’s late buying movement. Private crop ac counts were more favorable, how ever, the south was a heavy sellei around offerings and liquidation bj recent buyers for a reaction. Reports that tlhe Moroccan dispute had been settled may have Inspired some of the demand as they led tc predictions of a better demand fron continental spinners, but aggressive buying on advances still appeared tc be more or less discontinued by tne continued selling of the south and reports of ;very large Interior re ceipts. Receipts 65,168 ba'es against 54 51!) last week nnd 55,302 last year. New York, Sept. 27. —Cotton fu tures closed very steady. Sept. 27—Confusion prevailed throughout today’s trading it tyiy previous time during the turb. ulent sessions of llhe last few weeks. The range of prices of leading sfocks in some cases reached six points. Not for many years aside front rimes of panic, have such fluctuations occurred within a single session. To ni sales on stocks were 1,726.500 shares, by far the largest of the year. Dealings In United * States Steel eclipsed :ast Friday’s record, reach* Ing 721,800- shares, the largest num. her of itiares of this stock ever trad ed In one day. Transactions in Heading and Union Pacific also were abnormally heavy, reaching 1X8,700 shares in the case of the former slock and 279,500 shares for the lat ter. On trie strength of the United States Steel Corporation's statement that it would not dissolve voluntar. ily prices were carried up violently at ttie outset. Kalns in some cases amounting to five points. Trading in bonds was unusual y heavy although the total fell below yesterday’s huge sum. Quotations weakened after «n initial showing of strength. RECORD PRICE FOR COFFEE New York, Sept. 27—A record price was established at the coffee exchange today w hen September oof ‘fee sod at 12.9S cents. Tlhis wac the result of a liberal demand from shorts. Other months were several points lower, so there was some sell ing pressure owing to weakness in the European markets. Sugar seemed to be on the down grade and 140,000 bugs from the new San Domingo crop for delivery be tween January and April brought the prices mutfh lower than the lutsis o' 5.96 1-2 quoted here. The fact that Arbuckle Brothers were taking orders for granulated sugar at 6.75 cents netless two per cent for cash, like most of the other refiners was taken by sugar broker-1 to mean 'ower prices for the refined product soon. 714 1.2 Centra! avenue.
