A, ADVERTISING CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD MONDAY IN ST. LOUIS BETWEEN LEAGUE AND THE TWO RAILROADS. rhere Will bo an Effort to Create an Advertising Fund of $45,000— —Some of the Benefits of Advertising. There will be a conference in St. ^ouis Monday between President C. <f. Rix and, Secretary George R. lelding of the Business Men’s ajague, and Messrs. H. A. Jones of he Majestic hotel. J, rt. Hayes 01 lie Park Hotel. Lyman T. Hay, of he Arlington and Eastman hotels; ’oloiiel Stockton of the Majettc ho el, Colonel S. W, Fordyve, of the uibllc service corporations, John lebastiau and George H. Lee of the lock Island, and C. L. Stone, B. F. | lush and J. W. Bootli of the Iron Jnuntain railroad, for the purpose of reating au advertising fund for Hot Springs for the coming year. Tlie proposal is to pledge $20,000 n behalf of Hot Springs and. have he railroads jointly pledge $25,000. The subscription locally is lai’ter ban ever before attempted here- but lie benefits have boon so large and so certain that the people no long ?r regard the money in tlie light ot yrJinary »u'uBOiiptlons, but as an in vestment certain to bring profit. Something of the benefit of this av vertlsing is taken from a splendid authority in “Judicious Advertising,’ which was prepared by Mr. J. \V. Booth of the advertising department of the Iron Mountain railroad. The article says: Space was ordered in an expanded list of newspapers, new territory be ing invaded. The campaign continued for the months of January, February and March, 1911, and included two inser tions of advertisements each w?eek, averaging about three hundred lines each insertion. The first advertise ments appeared the middle of Janu ary. “Again Hot Springs and the rail roads were staggered by the wonder ful results that followed immediate ly. Hot Springs, patronage rose to 175,000 persons In 1011 splendid ev idence of the cumulative effect of the advertising. “The total advertising cost of se curing tlie increased patronage had been less than 75c for each visitor and every guest paid the railroads and the Hot Springs business men from $100 to $1,000 each. "The city has entertained during the past two years more than 200.000 guests, whkh is a greater number than had ever visited Hot Springs during any previous three years. “It is my confident belief and also that of the business men in whose charge lias been placed the publi city proposing that 200,000 or more visitors will go to Hot Springs dur ing the 1911-12 season. “The advertising campaign has be come a fixture in the city’s business getting calendar. It lias paid a monumental profit. “Which echoes the dependability of the newspaper for the sale of goods which depend upon organized con cent ration. “On one occasion when I w as with Secretary Helding last April we met several aent u>m»m who had subscrib ed to the advertising fund. One In particular said, ‘I subscribed $50 last year, put me down for $100.00 this year.’ Tills was the general seuti. meftt everywhere among tlie city's business interests. Street Commissioner Tlios.
