There is apparently an effort beinu made on the part of a few people ol the city to stir up some itollticai strife here as a prelude to the Sep tember county election. It is but natural that various po litical parties should labor tor reward. They like to be represented in oflice. And they are entitled to make cam paigns without being subjected to criticism. But political parties, as a rule, do not come under the strife-breeding head. The effort, here is not iu behalf ol any poJiticEl. opgjuiliHtion, it is an attempt to revive local Issues, to sHr up prejudices^ aud to overllmiw tli? expression of sentiment of the peo ple in a recent political contest. Naturally Interest seems to center in an attempt to defeat the candi date for sheriff. There is a Socialist candidate for sheriff. There Is a reform candidate for sheriff. There will he a Republican can didate for sheriff. There Is a candidate candidate for sheriff. There Is a Democratic nominee for ther ff. The Democratic nomine-’ is entitled to the support, of ail the Democratic nominees. He was nominated hy the rules of a Democratic primary elec tion, ^ conducted ion honest anti straightforward lines. He represents the party organization here just as other nominees do. The best way to prevent political strife and to contribute to the pub lic welfare of the party, la for Dem ocrats everywhere to declare them selves. "It was an honest election, and I am for all the nominees," i an expression frequently heard. It should be universally heard. livery Democratic nominee owes something to the party, and that ob ligation can be filled only by a fair and honest and unprejudiced official career. We believe the nominees ■will acquit themselves with all tht credit the public expeded them t< when they received majorities in the primary of March. It Is not too late or too early for every voter who participated in that March primary to give expression te nis determination to support the nominees of the party from the head to the foot of the ticket. As a monkey shooter Hoosevelt was a physical giant, but as a candidate under' disadvantages, he is a squawk ing kid. The people of Hot Springs are reaching that stage where they like to picnic together. But speakers who ran out of some thing to say should he reminded that "1 thank you" la a nice conclusion. Having undergone the necearfaty process, Arkansas is “regular" in Re publican affairs. Regular as h — Chairman Mack stiU believes that most any Democrat nominated can be elected, except B-—-n. Just a little November weathi* chucked In to remind us of state falrt surrounding#. If the individuals of Hot Springs will do their part, the collective in teresta of the municipality and county will be sufficient to all state fair ends. Well, we have the government working for municipal-reservation Improvements, and the government agents working to build up the slate fair, so we should at least be expect ed to show a co-operative spirit. Delegatee leaving lor Chicago may find bullet proof armors at the locai hardware Stores. <But then why go to a summer re sort when attempting to prove that we operate one. But for a city of 28,1)00 people we are making rapid 4trldeg. Rev. Cross says “get-together” Is all necessary now for the great de velopment of Hot Borings, and Rev Tate says we are moving at an auto pace, with the car on the high speed, nil of which put together and agreed on, makes us going some. The crops are ail they should be, and will be more than experiod. Charities will not be neglected, but the abandonment of the organized movement Isn't spalling in big terms A large party—President Taft. This Is certainly not good weather for June poetry. The political pot Is boiling and Tod dy is stirring up the moss. Senator Dixon says that the Re publican party is being murdered — worse than tnat—committing suicide. A noted Washington man rises to remark that our congressmen can't sing ‘‘The Star Spangled, Danner.” Heavens- Who asked them to slug'/ When the panel post is established we may do our marketing by mail. Congress will adjourn during the Baltimore convention. Perhaps our congreemen are little tired attending ball games. Lillian Russell recently stated that she was a great admirer ol Thomas Jefferson, (treat heavens! Hon old is Lillian? Burning the candle at both ends uually results In candles burning ottty it one end—ai the funeral. The committee has not yet decided whether or not to ask the four wo men who will attend the Republican invention to remove their hats. Biino Texas has raised a bumper rop of onions it might, gratify its cit izens to know that a schoolboy re ent y translated ”E Plurltms Unum” to mean '‘Bat plenty onions.” Champ Clark’s iricnds will occupy 15 sleeping cars going to tho Haiti* more convention. When the hotel keepers get through with them the probabilities are that many will re turn to their homes oo. freight cart. In view of the fact that a large delegation from the west is expected at the convention it was a wise foro liought. of a Baltimore proprietor to install a shooting gallery on the root if his hotel. The plan of the Taft men seems to he to grab every delegate they uei.V Perhaps lhat '•rambling and ean tonading" in Alaska is just a Chicago echo. Ijondoners are to hear grand opera ai a shilling. The trouble will he to net the shilling. Tho biggest calamity howlers are he representatives of special priv ilege interests. State Chairman Barnes *s quoted a saying he means to hold for Taft every delegate <>'Cr whom Barnes has iutluence. Taft doubtless thinks Barnes rnlasod the opportunity to do that, when he wouldn't let the state delegation be instructed. Barnes is playing Barnes’ game chiefly, and tome others incidentally. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx X X X X X A GOOD HOTEL 5 NEW WEST HOTEL X X X X R. E. WESTERN, Prop.
