March 14.—Bellevue hos pital a city institution will be placed «t the disposal of Federal government Burgeons who are investigating Dr. Friedmann's tuberculosis treatment. The German physician will be asked to hold a clinic at Bellevue. Doubt As to Who is Chief Executive of the State Gives Attorney Oppor tunity of Probably Saving Client's Life. That Clarence A. Shunt a nil may es tui.n the death penalty on the gallows, imp m d lor the murder of his wife in this eft) last July because of the gubernatorial muddle in Little Rock, was pointed to last night when Attor ney W, G. Bofi.ie, who represents Schumann, returned from the state capitol. At Little Rock lawyers ol the state. It is said have given their opinion till Kutrell is governor. Ou the other hand Attorney General Moose has giv en his ofti.ial opinion that Oldham, a brother-in-law of Joe Robinson, is governor. There ia doubt on the question. Old ham holds office in qtte end of the mpitol and FTitrell in the other. The death sentence of Schumann must l»e certified out by the governor within a tew days, fixing the time when Schumann must be hung, since the supreme court lias passed finally on the matter. in the event Oldham certifies the date of execution Attorney Route will raise tilt* question as to his authority. On the other it and it Futrell certifies out the death penalty, the same qttes ilott will be raised. Attorney Itoui will probably ask for an injunction to lie Issued against file sheriff of this county enjoining him from carrying out the death sen icn :e as certified by either of the doubtful governors who might issue tie certificate, and that would place the matter in the higher courts. The issue as to the rightful gover nor may not be settled during the present year, and in that event Schu mann might live over until after .Ian nary l. 1911. in which event the exe cution by hanging will not be legal any more in the state, and there will no opportunity to raise another ques tion. So it. seems that the polittcial irramhle in Little Rock Is far reach ing in its effedt. and while Attorney Beuio will lie justified for resorting to all legal means to save ills client, Hu ends of justice will no doubt be Intcrferrcd with in many ways.
