WAS LOGICAL ENOUGH.
A well known hews agency which
distributes more stale news from Ut
ile Rock than any other, and whl'h
enjoys credit for Its adherence to
tacts, says there is still much com
ment heard about the failure of ihe
legislature to make an appropriation
lor the Arkansas State Fair, which is
held In this city each year.
The article sets up that, lour agri
cultural schools In tne stale received
$600,000 in appropriations. That would
fte $150,000 each.
The Arkansas State Fair asked tor
$40,000.
The sum of $10,000 taken from each
one of the state agricultural schools,
nnd still leaving them $140,000 eacn,
would have made up lor the $40,000
appropriation tor the Arkansas Slate
.Fair.
Tiie Arkansas State Fair would
probably have done as much for the
development of the agricultural re
sources of the state as any one ol the
agricultural schools.
Taking these facts into considera
tion, It was logical enough that the
fail exposition of the resources of the
state was entitled to slate atp and
state recognition.
There wag another reason, and
probably many of them, why Hot
Springs failed to get tne anticipated
and promised aid for Us State Fair.
ITobably ft would lie well for the
Slate Fair directors to make a tlnan
eiai statement, ilgure up the indebted
ness, and turn this Institution over (o
some other city In the slate which :s
not under the ban of the prejudice of
the state legislature.
not (Springs is the logical site. be
cause it has the best State Fair
grounds, and has an outside patronage
that displays the resources of the
state not alone to us of the state, but
where many other states view the ex
hibits.
■But if such an Institution in llot
(Springs can not receive proper recog
nition, and Instead of neing aided is
to bo looked ujion w tth jealous preju
dices, there It probably is better tor
the jiurposes and objects ot the in
stitution, in so far as Arkansas is con
cerned, that we agree that Pine BtutT
or some other city can foster It, after
'taking up the iudebtedness—and then
we can lend our interest Rnd enthu
siasm to its success.
