FIVE-CORNERED liOLF CONTEST YESTIRDAY MRS. R. W. THRIFT OF LIMA. O., BEATS A QUARTET OF FAIR GOLFERS. BY H. \V. LA NIG AN, Press Representative the Arlington and Kastman Hotels. There was a nifty five-cornered struggle, or maybe contest is the better word, on the links of the Hot Springs Golf and Country dub yes terday afternoon for the handsome silver loving cup awarded by Mrs. Theo. Edsall, wife of the well-known Hot Springs jeweler, who, witli her husband, is always active in the Spa’s social affairs, particularly golfing and the dances at the Arlington and Eastman. The contestants in the five-corner ed struggle, or rather contest, were Mrs. R. \V. Thrift of Lima, ().; Mr L. A. Vilas of (Ihioago and Hot Springs; Mrs. Paul P. Fitch of Youngstown, O., and Hot Springs; Mrs. ('. M. Williams of Chicago, who is a guest at the Arlington, and Mrs. Williams of San Francisco. The spe cies of said struggle, or contest, was match play against bogey. Who won? You would naturally name Mrs. Vilas, the hestest of the fair .players hereabouts, or Mrs. Fitch, who, while she may not he quite as proficient as Mrs. Vilas, lias a habit of winning trophies; or Mrs. iC. M. Williams, who played such sterling golf at time in the tourna ment put on by A. J. Hidden of Kodh ester. N. Y., an Arlington guest, last week. npui ( im|utruu) imrm bui|mibc ami yesterday was no exception to the rule. The victor was Mrs. K. W. Thrift of Lima, O., who, with her husband, another rare golf enthus iast, has been in Hot Springs ever since the Christmas holidays. Site played sterling golf and was well en titled to her triumph. Mrs. Vilas also played good golf, while Mrs. Fitch's performance was better than usual. Then, Mrs. C. M, Williams also did some clever driv ing and approaching, hut her putting was none too certain. Mrs. Williams, from far-away San Francisco, also did nicely at times. . The summary: Mrs. R. W. Thrift of Lima, ().; 5 down. Mrs. Ij. A. Vilas of Chicago and Hot Springs; 7 down. Mrs. Paul P.
